There is probably tonnes of junk in your Windows temp folder. What version of Windows do u use, as XP and Vista have different locations.
You can use a program called CleanCache to empty the folders. Its easy to find using Google. Its made by Buttugly Software. Install it, and use the tabs to set what you want removing. U cant remove anything important with it to stop your system from working, it will just delete any temp files/internet temp files and recycle bin.
When u said u got to 45% installing WoLK, i think the best bet will be to delete your Warcraft folders and reinstall. (i might be wrong on that one, anyone else agree?)

I use CCleaner to remove junk and cookies. And how the hell does it require 9 GB? My TBC had 9 GB and after instaled wotlk and the patches it has 12.6 GB.
