(Off) Tanking Pet

I know gorillas are exceedingly well recommended Tenacity pets, but I'm looking for some other suggestions for a tank pet. The Thunderstomp ability is undeniably awesome for solo farming given it's 360 degree radius, but I'm looking for a tanking pet for instances where my pet's main targets will be in front of it.
What sort of experience do people have with Tenacity pets in the role as off tanks or even as a main tank in older instances?
Bears with
Swipe
look respectable with the three-target attack spread and the Croc's
Bad Attitude
seems promising with it's attacking any target which attacks the pet given the pet will be attacked a lot.
I'd rather stay away from Exotics since I don't necessarily want to be bound to having the Beast Mastery talent, but what do people think of a Rhino's
Stampede
or a Worm's
Acid Spit
?
The former seems a mix of super dangerous with throwing mobs away as it could possibly pull adds but is an all-around damage (thus threat building) attack, and Acid Spit seems a nice single-target attack but can a Worm hold lots of aggro?
I'm not looking at high end raiding here, just doing runs with my small guild, but we do lack tanks. We're leveling a couple up for Northrend instances but we get a kick out of going back to TBC instances as well (this afternoon we 5-manned about half of Kara with a gorilla and voidwalker tanking). So this isn't serious business but nevertheless I'd like to do the best I can. So for that I need feedback!

That's just damage reduction, which is certainly nice but turtles don't have anything extra for threat generation. I do like turtles though, they're very cool. Even though they're actually tortoises. Silly Blizzard.

What I worry about with a gorilla is Thunderstomp breaking CC. That's why I was looking at something like Croc or Bear, with a more controlled multi-target threat attack that doesn't run the risk of breaking any CC.
