I just can't understand the thought process that says "I don't know something so I'll just post to the Wowhead forum and let someone else look it up for me"
No more like "I think, since it's still beta, I'll wait for it to become live before seeing what it does." After all, what better way to work out how things truely work than in game.
Apologies, i wasn't clear but that comment was really directed at v3rgil.
Any guesses on which spec seems best to level to 85? I'm leaning towards affliction because dotting a ton of mobs is always a jolly good time for leveling/questing, but I'm not sure I want to give up my precious Klekfazag.
Without Soul Siphon, will affliction actually have any advantage in terms of being able to maintain 100% life and mana while killing 15+ mobs? I've heard that the mobs are much harder, but any advantage for levelingspecX would certainly influence my decision. I don't care for leveling much so the less time I spend questing for 85 the better ^_^
How great will dungeons be for leveling? Demonic pact would certainly be awesome if we run with 4 casters...
Affliction has Soul Siphon (it also has Siphon Life which i think is probably the talent/ability you're really referring to). The numbers on the healing from SiLi are still being balanced so don't draw any major conclusions from PTR/beta numbers.
I think all three specs are going to be fairly strong in a game with noticeably stronger mobs (higher health and harder hitting). Demo with a tank, Destro with (hopefully) enough burst (and a daze) to get mobs down before reaching you and affliction with slow kills but self heals.
If SiLi does do some reasonable healing I think Affliction with the Soul Swap glyph will be incredibly strong for levelling. That glyph really has some incredible possibilities if left unfettered.
Soul Swap if it isn't nerfed seems like it'd be the best for leveling. Dot the first mob and then transfer it all to the next ^_^
Demo with a tank...
Are you referring to the voidwalker? Because the felguard no longer has Anguish (his taunt) in ptr/beta.
Affliction for leveling, absolutely no contest. The mobs hit like friggin' trucks, Aff is the only one who has enough self healing to even stay alive in Uldum+.
Every warlock spec has drain life. Just because it doesn't top meters in raids doesn't mean you can't use it while leveling.
Not every warlock spec has reduced pushback on drain life. Not every spec has haunt. Sorry to break it to ya, but the self healing capabilities of the other specs simply pale in comparison to aff.
Life Tap now costs 15% of your total health, down from 20%. Converts 120% of that into mana, up from 75%.
Soul Harvest now regenerates 15% of your health every 3 sec for 9 sec, up from 5%.
Create Healthstone now restores health equal to 45% of the creator's base health, down from 60%.
Death's Embrace now heals you for an additional 1% of your health while at or below 25% health. (Old - Increased the amount drained by 10/20/30%)
Siphon Life now has a chance to heal for 2% of your total health, up from 1%.
Mana Feed now causes you to instantly gain 2/4% total mana. (Up from 1%) Your summoned demon now gains 30/60% of the mana from Drain Mana and Life Tap, down from 60/120%.
Soul Fire now has a 4 sec cast time, down from 6 sec.
Conflagrate now deals fire damage equal to 100% of your Immolate's periodic damage on the target. Range changed to 40 yards, up from 30 yards.
Empowered Imp no longer increases the damage done by your Imp by 10/20%.
Nether Protection now lasts 12 sec, up from 8 sec.
Soul Leech now instantly restores 5/10% of your total health and mana, up from 1/2%. Replenishment effect now grants 1% mana per 10 sec, down from 1% per 5 sec.
Lfe tap = grats fin!
harvest = wish it was mana too
healthstone = under affliction?
DE = k, cool
SiLi = Maybe still not enough but better
mana feed = caster mana return fixed. 120% was ridiculous. i call this a fix.
SF = cool but has that crippled it's coefficient?
conflag = does this mean the DoT effect is gone and it's back to being all direct?
emp imp = >.<
nether prot = not bad for PvE but much more interesting to PvPers no dount
Leech = given the spells that actually proc it i think 5/10 is much better. i assume the replenishment change effects all specs that provide it.
Also something worth mentioning that will become important later on:
3) Requiring higher combat ratings for additional content tiers. What hit caps you for 4.0 won't be sufficient in 4.1, so the extra budge on the 4.1 gear will be helpful.
moving hit cap, that'll be fun for the FAQs/guides.
Hmm.. regarding soul fire
Direct Damage spells:
C = Cast Time / 3.5
Some exceptions of this rule are:
Soul Fire (Warlock) - 115%
If this is true, then the coefficient of soul fire will remain the same, even if they don't retain the fixed coef. cap.
4 / 3/5 ~= 1.142857 or basically , 1.15 (115%)
So this is a huge buff which will be more apparent during cata raiding. 2 second off the cast time, same coef. Woot.
well, destro will still only use them when it's instant so it really only effects demo during decimation. the question becomes how does SF stack up with decimation and emberstorm?
Life Tap - I knew Blizz wouldn't leave us out in the cold like that =D
Soul Harvest - Might make leveling as other specs easier, now that we don't have to eat for a full minute to get all our HP back... We will see if Destro can survive killing mobs post-83 though.
Healthstone - Meh.
DE - Errr, ok?
SiLi - Better, but still not very good. But better.
Mana Feed - Saw this coming.
Soul Fire - GOOD. Bout time.
Conflag - Errr, ok... Blizz really will never be happy with conflag will they o.O
Empowered Imp - lol.
Nether Prot - Meh.
Soul Leech - Meh.
ok so i read today
Soul Fire's spell power coefficient is about 71.41 percent, down from a 115 percent
(they give no source for the numbers)
they go on to discuss how the reduced casting time means it's an increase in overall output but that only applies to demo who will be casting it constantly. this actually equates to a pretty hefty nerf to destro who will only ever cast instant SFs
From what i hear from ptr/beta the burning embers DoT does ridiculous amounts of damage and so this could be a change to target that specifically but along with gutting emp imp (now all it does is give your imp's attack a 2/4% chance for an instant SF = destro nightfall YUCK!) what i was calling the strongest spec for 4.0 is starting to feel a little weak even if the numbers are actually just balancing out.
the more i think about it the more emp imp makes me sad. it's such a cool ability on live.
With SF down to 3 seconds with talents will destro actually be casting these more often? from what i've heard about the way burning embers works, one SF sets a high DoT tick damage and imp hits refresh that high damage from then on. this appears to be what is casing the high numbers from the DoT.
if they changed/fixed this we may want to hit SF every 7 seconds to keep that DoT rolling, whether we have an instant to hit or not.
...i hope they don't implement this however. i don't think it would be fun to cast a 3 second cast every 7 seconds and i don't think it would be fun to track the BE DoT. something to bear in mind though as the bugs get ironed out.
im a little confused though because as it stands now... my gear isn't even BiS and my soulfires are already down to like 1.25ish during bloodlust
not sure how haste is gonna scale in cata but with this reduced cast time we won't be needing as much haste to soft cap it?
and yet the most powerful fire nuke isn't used by the tree that uses direct damage fire spells? That's even more retarded ^_^
Thoughts on mana feed points? I doubt the felguard will need the second point in mana feed even with the nerf, but it'll probably be worth it for the self regen anyways. Whenever I place points into the Demo tree in the calculator I'm always guessing what's gonna suck because there simply isn't enough points to get everything. With the change to life tap, I need to cut a point somewhere and this seems like one of the extras I can do without.
really? see the thread i'm working on for 4.0 builds for the demo spec i'm thinking of. the demo points work perfectly well.
my guess is that you're seeing more value in a talent than there really is (or that i'm seeing less).
Ah, the trees have changed since I last did it. No problems now ^_^ It's more about which crappy talent you want to unlock the last couple tiers.
Yay I can post again :D
Anyway, the newest changes...
I'm liking Life Tap, Soul Fire, Soul Harvest, Soul Leech (I sense a theme here), Neather Prot, Mana Feed, Siphon Life and Conflag.
Not liking Emp. Imp, Deaths Embrace or Healthstone (then again it will still heal more that it does on live).
so you like the buffs and don't like the nerfs?
pretty insightful stuff mastorbaitor, thank gods you can post again.
