Hey guys, I'm planning to re-roll a Blood Elf on Emerald Dream after 2 years of playing on Mal'Ganis and I'd appreciate some advice on what to make. At the moment I've got a Lv60 Human Paladin, and Lv60 Rogue on Mal'Ganis (I quit in September of 2006 and I'm going to start again mid-May), and although they both have their downsides, I love playing them both to a degree. Here's what they're like right now.http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Mal%27Ganis&n=Vigilanthttp://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Mal%27Ganis&n=Zorae
In general, I'm hoping you guys could explain what PvP is like as these classes at Lv70, and what spec works best. If it's a Paladin, I'm making it 16/0/45 no matter what, but I'm really undecided as a Rogue. I've tried both Combat Swords, and Shadowstep build but which do you guys think would work better in BGs/Arena? One of my major concerns as a Rogue are all the anti-Stealth abilities out there, and without a dedicated healer, I find most fights with any class of equal gear to be pretty challenging:
Warriors: I'd rather take an Overpower than Mortal Strike, but the latter doesn't seem to get Dodged much...I DO mind Dodging normal auto-attacks. Low DMG vs. Plate.
Paladins: I'm eating killing myself against Prot, Holy outlasts me, or Retribution just destroys me. On my Paladin I certainly had no trouble against Rogues, and that was before TBC changes to Ret. The amount of burst DMG I can do at Lv60 now is ridiculous, but that's partly due to my gear at this level; I hear JoCommand is extremely weak because of Resilience at Lv70 though. Low DMG vs. Plate.
Mages: High burst DMG or too much snaring.
Shamans: Enhancement build is just too much to take without a healer assisting, Stormstrike + Windfury + Earthshock for 60% mana brings my health down systematically and quickly.
Hunters: More snares than I can break out of with my CDs, and I can only get out of Mark so many times.
Warlocks: Even if I kill them, their DoTs are often enough to finish me off.
I wasn't trying to make this into a QQ thread, but that's a list of difficulties I faced back before I quit at Lv60, and when I last played during Spring Break this year nothing seems to have chanced much, except Paladins are an even bigger challenge and Warlocks aren't Shadowbolt spamming anymore. However, are things any different at Lv70? I know Cloak of Shadows makes a big difference, but even with Subtlety build, is it wrong to believe Rogues don't have much survivability unless it's in organized group PvP? I really like playing as a Rogue (Agility class in general) but one of the things I hate the most is that they're really reliant on CDs, on my Paladin I can make due without Divine Shield, on my Rogue without Vanish or Sprint...things are going to get messy. I was really counting on Shadowstep breaking snares but I found out the hard way concerning that.
At this point with all the disadvantages I'll be facing as a Rogue, I think I might be better off making a Paladin, but before I make the wrong decision are there any downsides as a Paladin that I should know about? The only things I'm aware of at the moment is that I constantly get Purged, and this is more annoying than anything else
In general, I plan to grind AV, WSG, and AB marks at Lv59 or 60 depending on how well Horde do in those BG brackets, and once I hit 70 I was going to buy the S1 Gladiator set + PvP rewards, and after that I was hoping to make a small PvP group with some friends. I know this was a lot to take in, but if you guys could provide any advice that would making deciding easier I'd really appreciate it.
P.S. - Should I just make a Hunter...? I kind of prefer melee combat but meh...seems like Hunters do well enough in that as well when the situation calls for it. The increased armor and health would alleviate some of the setbacks Rogues face too.
