I also have very little PvP experience, though i do have some farming experience :P. My question to you is:
For the build that delves into mind flay, how do you really see yourself farming, i.e. what is going to be your strategy and spell order. How you want to play will determine what you need.
For me, while farming dailies for rep if I am really going for groups(think "kill ten converted heroes") will almost always end up being a Powering funsion into Holy Nova Spam, and as I am right now farming Scarlet Monastary for silk for an alt, I find that holy nova is much less brain power and probably quicker than mind flay.
Now for the purposes of the daily quests sometimes the "single target at a time" (kill 15 shadow cult members) shadow is better suited becuase, well we are still kinda squishy in icecrown. The build you had up though doesnt really play into either concept so just let me know what you think you want to do.
If you are looking for that PvP utility out of shadow, you are getting it. It will snare the target just fine, the problem is that you dont have VT, talented DP, or any other shadow talent to really help. All of the damage buffs (a total of 13 talent points) are going into two spells at this point. I agree, no real way to get those same 13 points into more damage, but at least for more survival with a more typical PvP build.
from my experience casting Holy fire and Smite, another 10% damage is not going to do much of anything. This may be where PvP is a different animal than PvE, but still, in order to make those spells a real dps market, it will have to be closer to 25 or 35%....
in short the PvP disc sides look theroretically fine, and the holy build seems to be ok, but all of the real stregnth of shadow is how it builds off of itself, the replenish and VE help with farming and soloing, while all the little damage ups along the way give it the oomph it needs to kill something.

Not exactly what you asked for but....
Been trying different specs for BG. I have tried all the cookie cutter specs of Disc and Shadow. Disc gave me alot of survivability and the power to tickle the enemy with my l33t damage. With shadow I could kill things but with the survivability of a wet paper.
So I have been trying out a hybrid spec which I am starting to like.

I am no expert so if anyone see any improvement to the build please say so, I´m here to learn from you experienced fellas.

I'd stick with something like
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#bxcbuhGiRcoffotbxtc0b:VuA
, you get great Holy Novas and Smites with the Glyphs and Searing Pain, I don't see the need for Grace in BGs (depending on which particular BG you prefer running, actually) and 1/3 Spirit Tap seemed too unreliable to justify picking it up, but if you know from experience that you're good at timing KBs, then go for it. I basically took your suggested spec, moved 3 points around and added Glyphs...
That's basically the spec I used to run for smiting in Arenas, except for the Holy Nova Glyph (which should be replaced with Inner Fire or Pain Suppression).
Edit: I really don't like Shadow hybrids, to me, all the good stuff from Shadow is in the higher tiers, by going Hybrid, you miss on the best stuff from both specs... Fuzz's suggested spec, for example, misses out on Psychic Horror, Dispersion, Vampiric Touch, etc... while not having Penance, Pain Suppression or Borrowed Time... It's really not what I'd call "the best of both worlds", imho... IMHO!

I have never tried using penance on myself(and thought you couldn't) but keep reading that you can. Penance can stack grace three times in one go(would need 2/2grace) which would make any Renew or needed flash heals very effective. Wouldn't this be more effective than hoping for crits and depending more on DA?
On Spirit tap... I have read that if I heal a friendly who get a Honor Kill I get partial honor for that kill.I do get a lot of Honor while strickly healing. If that is the case wouldn't shielding or healing a few people trigger the 1/3 spirit tap quite often? Plus it would be almost guaranteed when AoE farming. Do you think ths sounds right? Also... is it even necessary? Disc has few mana issues but if spirit tap procs in a mana intensive fight it could change the outcome. Please give your thoughts.
1/3 Spirit Tap seemed too unreliable to justify picking it up, but if you know from experience that you're good at timing KBs
1. Yeah, you can Penance yourself... (Couldn't when the spell first came out, but they changed that in an earlier patch.)
2. Grace is nice, but even with a full stack, it "only" makes your heals 9% more effective, I personally use it on my PvP spec, so I'm not arguing against it, I simply figured those points would be better spent in Renewed Hope / Divine Aegis which were 1/2 and 2/3... Honestly, I'd pick 2/2 Grace (or 2/2 Renewed Hope and 3/3 Divine Aegis) over 2/2 Searing Light, if that makes things more clear.
It also depends on your gear, in my Arena gear, I got under 15% crit, I don't bother picking up 3/3 Divine Aegis because of that... But I guess when AoE farming, the DA procs off Holy Novas are nice..., so I'd max that?
3. For Spirit Tap, like I said, if you know from experience that the 1/3 points spent in it make it proc often enough to justify its use, go for it, last time I used it, it was procced by killing blows, not healing the guy who landed the killing blow, and considering it's Shadow, I don't think this would've changed to accomodate healers, but I don't know, just test and see if it works.
I'd love to know if it does work or not without wasting 100g to find out, if it does, it's certainly worth losing 1% Holy crit% for that kind of regen, and for AoE farming alone, it's a good pick, I kinda forgot about that purpose of your spec at some point when I first replied...
