Power-level or start over?

I currently have a lvl 40 Hunter with decent equip for the level. I just talked a friend into returning to WoW, using Refer-A-Friend. Since he wants to roll Hunter as well, what's the fastest method to level his new hunter to my lvl 40? Should I start a new hunter at the same time so we get 3x XP or can I somehow powerlevel his with my lvl 40? If p-lvling is faster, do we grind zones, instances, or questing?
Thanks in advance for everyone's informed opinion.

Since you're only level 40 yourself, I'd say just start a new character.
If you go the questing route, I don't think he'll get the benefits of refer-a-friend until he's closer to your level. Plus you'd be taking away a bit of exp from each kill. That kills the idea of grinding too. Instances are the way I've powerleveled in the past, using

as a guide to when you can zone in somewhere. I don't think level 40 would be terribly effective though - if you were a higher level I'd go that route.
I say take the opportunity to try out a new class. If you like it, you can stick with it or just keep it as an alt. If not, you can always go back to the hunter when your friend hits 40. And as he continues to level, he can toss whichever character you don't play a few free levels.
