[pre] no longer preserves spaces

Rather then nesting unsorted lists, I sometimes use \ in combinition with spaces to make indentations. Currently, leading spaces (and possibly other spaces) are no longer shown.
Example (using _ as space in the first example):

\
1_Item
2_Item
___3_subitem
___5_subitem
\

displays as:

1 Item
2 Item
3 subitem
5 subitem

This is for both Chrome and IE 7.

And for Mozilla aswell, ruins all my -made quest trees >.<

Is it a bug? Or intended? If first - when fix, and if second - why? :<
