Damn you Paolo!
Beat me to it. :p
The single best way to level
is to have dual gathering. Q:
Heh, well, this is kinda a long story.Any character needs gold. (Unless it is an alt, or unless you buy gold of course!).
There is two ways to earn
gold that are available to low-level characters: Farming
(as in "grinding", which means spending time killing mobs or gathering things), and AH trading
(that means spending time researching the AH, buying low and selling high). (Note: When you have a Grand Master and a decent starting amount of gold, you can begin the real money-making; however, you must get to that poing first!)
So, we assume that you need gold
. What for? Easy. Either you plan to start your own financial empire... or you just want a safety blanket which will make you spend less time grinding for your epic flying, gear, etc.
AH trading is more efficient on the average (i.e. gives more gold per hour, if executed right), but unpredictable. No guy screwed himself today, no cheap deals on AH, and you're out of luck.
Farming gives more predictable income, and is indeed much easier to "master" (huh) for a newcomer. Q:
Okay, blah blah, so what now? A:
Ahem, didn't you notice the bad stuff already? Both these methods take time.
The advantage of having two gathering professions is that you get FREE GOLD.
"Free" as in "stupidly high amounts of gold per hour". Why? Because you don't "work" for it. You are doing the thing you would be doing anyway. You spend almost no extra time at all, and get gold for it!
And another thing which is important, if not obvious. You actually sell the cloth
that falls your way! (Some people say it's "free" to level tailoring along the road. They lie. Levelling tailoring like that costs you the money you do NOT get because you waste your cloth.)Having two gathering profs is the least tedious way to make a starter package of gold.
What you spend it for is up for you to decide.Just to illustrate:
Me and my wife were levelling our characters together. We had all 3 of the gathering professions among us, and gathered an easy 1000 gold by level 30. Then, I started auctioneering (because I already could afford to buy out an epic for 850g and then re-sell it for its proper 1600g!)
, so our profits soared.P.S.
I deliberately did not touch the "stat bonus" aspects of professions. Why? Because there are plenty of others' posts who tell you about it. The awesome Paolo even lists a link
for you. Just keep in mind that those shiny +40SP will indeed help you... at level 80.
You don't even get any stat bonuses from crafting professions until you are Grand Master. Now, the +health, +crit or +HoT suddenly start to look much sweeter, don't they?..
