If you do purchase the cards off eBay (nothing wrong with that) make sure you get them to physically ship you the card(s) instead of emailing the codes. Otherwise you'll have no dispute according to eBay/Paypal guidelines as they only insure physical items OR virtual items, not codes that can be used for virtual items. Beyond that, Warcraft's terms and conditions say your pet belongs to them, so Paypal also allows their agreements with Blizzard to stand that no dispute can be filed for in-game happenings.
Many scammers use eBay with this tactic. Some scammers do the opposite as well, buying the items, getting the codes emailed to them, then claiming it was never sent after it is redeemed. Bottom line, if shipping always send physically via certified mail. If recieving always request physical cards shipped (preferably by certified mail).
Blizzard does not (can not?) ban the transfer of cards (from a TRADING card game), but they have advised GMs not to address disputes with the codes.
