Prot Paladin weps? /boggle

Ok, so I am new to protadin, leveled through wrath as lolret and am attempting to get my foot in the door as a tank.

I knew that a long time ago in a land far far away, prot pallies would use a spelldamage wep to boost their damage and threat. with the new prot talents (30% stam to spellpower) is using spelldamage weps pretty much no more?

How much spell damage does a good prot pally need? with a spelldamage 1h, I have just around 500. My gear is in no way amazing, and probably need some work before heroics (1.1k stamina).

My main 2 questions are...

How much spell power does the average prot pally need to efficiently tank?
Should I look for a spell power wep to boost my damage, or find one with more tanking-like stats?

0 on gear.

Stick with tanking weapon.

Thanks greatly for the help. after I thought about it I felt what I had was probably too much, and finding a *better* spellpower wep would just totally be overkill.

Going to try to find a good tanking wep, thanks again for the tips, guys

As stated above, you do not need to gear for spellpower. Besides the fact that strength is better, you should be getting all of the spellpower you need from Touched By The Light. I have 0 SP gear or enchants, however unbuffed I have around 700 spellpower.
