Prot PVP: Crusader Strike, or Hammer of the Righteous?

Subject says it all, which has the ability to hit harder when in a PVP environment? According to the tooltip Crusader Strike hits for more weapon damage. However on my 80 Paladin the Holy component of Hammer of Righteous hits for 1.6k. So at 85 does Crusader Strike win out, or does the Holy damage from HotR make up for that?

Does no one bother reading anymore? He's asking about
PvP
. At any rate, CS should be what you're using at 85. HotR doesn't even come close to it's damage at max level.

At 85, CS will always hit harder. For groups, still use HotR (like the FC's escort).

Thanks, guys. I just recently got the talent Wrath of the Lightbringer, and noticed a very large jump in my Crusader Strike damage. I guess that answers that question anyway!

When I was leveling I had HoTR glyphed, but not CS. That said, HotR hit harder than CS even on single targets until level 80ish. After that CS outshines HotR. Remember HotR has a physical and Holy damage component when it hits.

Cool.

With T10 2 piece probably.

In 4.0.6 crusader strike is being altered to 135% top weapon damage, as opposed to 115%, which is a 17% damage increase.
Just thought I'd mention it :)

He said until level 80ish. How would he have T10.
Also, I heard that against plate wearers, the holy damage from HotR can bump it up to being usable yet most posts in this thread completely dismiss it. Am I missing something or has something changed?

Having done a lot of BG, rated BG and arena, one thing I learned: it's more important to kill one person than to hit many but every one survive. being prot base ( res of 3.3k) my CS crit for almost 20k while my HoR max at 12k.
Very often, killing one player in an BG battle will tip the balance in your favor and your group will clean the whole area.

even if your against a heavy armored target, crusader strike is still the way to go, HOR just dosnt hit very hard tbh, at lvl 85 the holy damage it pretty small, its rly only made to be spammed during aoe tanking to hold agro with trash or if a boss summons adds

Maybe against someone turtling with a shield, but other than that, CS
should
still hit for more. And without the chance of breaking CC on surrounding targets.

Another thought I had on this is that for building HP, while you're PvPing and therefore moving, HoR has a bigger target view cone than CS, so for that it is certainly the better choice.
Obviously, the above depends on your team/group/etc :)

What? No, it has exactly the same range as every other melee ability: melee range. As long as the target is in your front 180 degrees and in your face, you can use HotR and CS just as equally.

Sorry Raleandris, I wasn't talking about range, but it seems from using both spells that HoR has a wider cone than CS.
Alas, this is not based in fact (because I couldn't find any factual info!) only experimenting, so I could be talking utter nonsense! :D
EDIT: spelling fail

It doesn't, it behaves exactly the same as every other melee range ability, as I described in my above post.
