Well i started with my lock as a PvP character and raided on my druid, but i switched them over. When i started raiding with my lock i had all of s2 gear and only a couple of genuine PvE items. Compared to Kara epics, season 2 or 3 PvP epics compare pretty well on spell dmg, are far superior for raw stats, but totally lack spell hit which is vital for PvE. Your main challenge is just getting your spell hit up.
So, what i did was just look at all the loot tables for Kara and rep reward epics and found the items that had the most spell hit on them and set out to get them.
A good way to start is aim for the
gloves from Attumen (1st boss Kara) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28507
- and get 15 spell hit enchant and hit gem = 40 spell hit on 1 item!
neck from Moroes (2nd boss) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28530
- 15 spell hit on it
boots from Wizard of Oz (4rd boss) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28585
- 16 spell hit
legs from any opera event (4th boss) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28594
- 3 gems = 24 spell hit
then grindable stuff:
ring from CE exalted http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29172
- 21 spell hit
PvP staff (MH&OH is slightly better but will take a fair bit more honor grinding) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24557
- 21 spell hit
PvP Dreadweave shoulders (which have spell hit on them) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=31976
- 13 spell hit
and if you have other s1 or s2 items commit them to PvE by putting spell hit gems in every yellow socket = 4 x 8 = 32 spell hit (yellow sockets: shoulders 1 chest 2 bracers 1)= 182 spell hit!!
if you want to go all the way and are scryers, get http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29132
you are then hit capped and you have only 4 drops from very early Kara bosses. You may be a bit behind on spell dmg (you will have about 850-900 unbuffed, 1000 ish buffed) compared to guys guys with just kara drops and instance blues, but you have the potential to be way ahead on spell hit, which can make you top dmg in your raid if you spec right, buff up, drink flasks and play hard :-)
Short answer - yes you can do Kara in PvP epics, just gem and enchant them for PvE.
