If you're looking at your PvP damage and feeling like it's a bit lacking, then you're probably not a fire mage or holy paladin.
For those of us who could use a little boost - the answer is something that's a bit unconventional - replace all of your blue gems with
Stormy Deepholm Iolite and yellow gems with
Vivid Elven Peridot and watch your DPS increase by as much as 10% depending on your gear.
Every 100 rating for pvp power yields roughly 1% improved damage and healing in pvp. This will reduce your pve dps slightly, but it will boost your pvp performance substantially.
I'm a little over 30% on my enhancement shaman and it's a very noticeable difference - about the same as going form all ruthless gear to all cata gear.
You can buy
Stormy Deepholm Iolite and
Vivid Elven Peridot for 750 honor apiece from the pvp vendor in stormwind if they are high-priced on your server.
The old "spell piercing" cloak enchant now also provides +56 pvp power.
NOTE: I tried going all blue with the gems and it's a net DPS loss because you give up the meta gem in the helm when you remove the red gems. I recommend putting the appropriate red gems in the red sockets for best effect.
Casters: If int is your primary stat you have an option of replacing red gems with
Mysterious Shadow Spinel for the red sockets to pick up an extra 75 pvp power at the expense of 75 int, without giving up your shadowspirit gem requirement of 3 red gems.
This is subject to change at level 90 so this is mainly for people that want to have a bit more fun right now.
