Queuing for Scenarios as a healer... am I doing it wrong?

Just a little background, my main is a Holy Paladin and I've been playing him since launch. I've always loved the challenge of healing and it remains my favorite way to play PvE content.
However, the other day I joined a scenario and when one of the other two saw I was healing and not DPSing, they proceeded to grumble about the run going to take longer than it should. Was that guy the exception, or is it expected that you should join a scenario as DPS?

I haven't done a whole lot of scenarios, but while 3 DPS will go faster than 2 DPS and a healer/tank, it should be acceptable to queue as the spec you prefer.
I've queued up as a tank for a few scenarios and didn't get any complaints, although tanks obviously contribute more than a healer does in killing mobs ;)

They are balanced with 3 dps in mind, but 3 dps who know where one or two oh-&*!@ buttons are.
Having a healer and 2 dps or even a tank and two dps doesn't break the system, it'll just take a minute more or two more.
But because of the fact, that many people run them for capping VP and having a healer might potentially slow them down, you get the reaction you described.
I personally like having a healer, because that means, I can go full out ham in szenarios - just look for two friends with this mindset and enjoy :D

having 1 healer and 2 dps is fine.
i prefer 3 dps also since it allows quicker stomping of the place, and i can keep my pet up enough myself in ferocity and if needed switch tentacity. i always welcome an offheal if there is a hybrid dps.
but you dnt need a healer at all.
now the worst case scenario in a scenario is when you end up with 2 healers or 2 tank 1tank/healer and 1 dps (of 3 ppl without any dps is even worse cause stuff dies so slow). this doesnt happen often but they few times it did occur i asked if 1 of the 2 could go dps too speed things up since it was a bit overkill too have such combinations in a scenario. mixed results sometimes they went dps and it was over quick sometimes 1 stayed heal/tank and the other went dps and it was fine. and i met a few who got butthurt so it took forever and i just left.

I rather have a healer who actually heals than a dps thats wandering around, pulling additional stuff and dying in fire. All i get are healers who do the second thing while not healing.

As a tank, I normally deal like twice the DPS of an average DPS-specced character in an AoE pull, and I can easily survive substantially large AoE pulls. I do not understand when someone says 2dps+tank would be slower. Maybe if the tank is a warrior.
I am not super happy to see healers in scenarios. They are not needed normally, so when you get them, you miss up on potential damage (in such a small group format, losing 1 dps is significant), and gain practically nothing that you couldn't go without. I think I'd be fine with Smite priests and Fistweavers though.
Not that I would ever talk to anyone in a scenario about his spec or anything, I really do not care a single bit about what kind of people queue for scenarios. It is quite normal that you get the freshest level 90 players who still wear greens, sometimes even Cataclysm epics.

And thats their main excuse for not playing their class properly (rogues without poisons, dks without diseases, people not using survival cooldowns, not interrupting etc) and not playing the scenario correctly (i think everyone get arrows on minimap) or not using the extra abilities/buffs the scenario provides.
I had two of such muppets in Domination point scenario and they kept whining on my 600k dps, that they are fresh dings and they dont have any gear, even though i told them like 4 times to take the items and use them on mobs, power up i didint even bother.

Same here with the Domination Point scenario, Zakkhar. They couldn't figure out how I was doing so much DPS after I told them to pick up the rockets about three times.

I had 2 people using guns and whining at the other to stop knocking the mobs out of aoe :)
Anyway, I don't mind healers, at least I don't have to pull out the voidy and can just sac him and have fun.

Sounds like typical Wrath baby LFD/LFR elitist mouthbreathers. "Oh nooooo, it'll take me 10 seconds longer to get my free valor,
how dare you
"
Any player with this attitude can frak off IMO. They are everything that's wrong with this game.

Its not really the attitude. Its a multiplayer game and its getting on people nerves if they have to practically solo the 3 player scenario because the other two people are either mentally challenged, afk, have no clue or joined as healer. Complete couple of such scenarios and you will understand where they are comming from.

I actually soloed a few scenarios when someone left and you couldn't queue for replacements.
I am more bothered by people that constantly hurry me and run off to pull more before this group is dead than I am by healers. *shrug* guess that's the difference between playing for fun and playing for gear/vp/whatever else

I play for fun too and carrying two people in 3-person scenario several times a week is nowhere near that. As long as such people (pulling more) dont die or dont make you die, what do you care? They play for fun too, just this time their fun isnt yours (and it was alright the other way round). I dont mind playing stuff solo, as long as i really am solo - not have two leeches strapped on my back.

Although techincally you are not wrong in queueing as a healer for a scenario but it is not nessecary. Honestly how much do you need to heal in a scenario you can bandage and keep most ppl alive without a challenge. I bet your overhealing is outrageous because you would be so bored. To compare this to a heroic would you bring 3 tanks 1 dps and 1 healer? Sure you could but why? Just so there wouldnt be very much damage to anyone.
I dont mind getting healers in scenarios but i will pull 3 times as much i normally would and if the healer cant handle healing 3 ppl then i would have serious issues with them.
On a side note i sometimes queue as a healer on alts just so i dont have to do much :P honesty ftw. If they complain i just start pulling everything for them and tell them your are the dps ...DPS something.

Also consider too, OP, you play a class that has an acceptable DPS mode that has off-healing capabilities, so while you may not be utilizing your full healing capabilities as DPS, you could still be doing a little healing and helping the group out.
I couldn't tell you how many scenarios I've been in where a feral/balance druid, enhance/elem shaman, ret/prot pal, shadow priest, or ww monk refused to offheal just to top people off.
