You probably want to specify what kind of materials you can use (and imitate). With WoW's visual style being what it is some looks are probably near impossible to recreate well using the "correct" material, like leather and cloth being far thicker and sturdier than they are in readily available and craftable forms in real life, though you probably worked that out already.

I suspect it'd be hard to get recreated older sets looking good because they're fairly lacking in detail. At the very least you'd have to use a lot of artistic license and embellishment.

If you are able to really get into the metal-working then I would suggest shooting for the Lich King armor. While it isnt something available to players it would certainly allow you to get into some vivid detail and it is an iconic look.

I would go with one of these:

I would suggest if you can do it well, although I can see that being fairly difficult. Also Malchazeen for the weapons.

How about this set, I think the whole lot comes from a number of BC bosses.

The set is a re-skin of the Rogue tier 2 (Bloodfang Armor) which was originally red. The set I link below is a blue colour instead. Would be awesome if you could do this though!
