Recount start the "fight" from the moment you enter combat.
For example if you pull the mob with the throw and wait still while it runs to you, recount will count that time too and you dps will be much lower than actually is.
If you are "in combat" but not fighting, it lowers your dps.
btw in instances your primary page is "Damage done" and not dps.
You can do 6000 dps, but if you just kill 1 mob for every group than stand still counting your fingers you are no good :D

Yes newest version. It seems add that my first attack using a test dummy I will use Ambush with Cold Blood and crit for just under 5k. Yet my first dps amount comes on and says 1500-2000. Does recount start it's timer from the point I target or after the first point of damage? It it was after the first point of damage shouldn't it read around 4-5k with the crit instead of 1.5? Of course I don't maintain 4-5k but I can crit ambush, crit a mutilate strike and do close to 9k damage in 2-3 seconds of attack and it still tells me under 2k and I end the fight under 2k dps.
You seem to not know what dps means. It's damage/seconds, meaning average damage you did every second during a period of time.

Why thank you sir for explaining to me what dps means as I guess I didn't know.
I was mearly asking when in fact it started the count so I can better understand how it is calculating as I see discrepencies and when I am trying to figure out if my rotation and gear is working well I also want to make sure I am looking at my "damage per second" correctly.
Read my post, I answered your question.
