The hardmode raiders swear by mastery, I'll take their word for it. The guild I'm in now is a tad (read: a lot) more casual than my LK guild.
However, for Heroics (and low end raiding for that matter), I actually prefer crit.
I gem/enchant int first, then haste. And reforge for spirit and crit. I started at 2.2K spirit, and slowly whittled it down to 2K even.
Dps mostly only see my healing stream totem, healing rain and riptide (keep it rolling). Chain heal (for me) doesn't seem to move the needle much; so I don't bother with it. Healing Surge (on the tank) is actually my primary heal. With Tidal Waves up (after a riptide) I'm looking for the 30% crit boost. The passive bonuses for a crit (smart heal, 10% absorb and water shield proc). Don't go spamming HS though, it's a mana killer. You have to be patient and let your passive healing do it's job; you have a ton of it. So, it's not critical to top stuff off. Just get things above 80% or so, and let the passives finish stuff off.
In the heat of the moment, it's easy to get carried away and cast another spell at someone who's not really in trouble (we have that "top'em off" instinct still). Don't. Let the passives do it and don't cast.
Finally, as has also been mentioned, dps has more responsibilty now. Not your fault if they think they can tank stuff, and can't. Not your fault it fhey stand in bad stuff. Tell them that you can't heal through fire and be done with it. And if dps is having trouble killing stuff before you're oom, then they need to dps better.
For the record, I'm main spec Elemental and there is definitely a need for improved dps out there. I heal heroics for the queue time in LFG, and whatever the guild needs.
