Returning after 1 year absence
Return to board index
So yesterday I broke down and resubbed, logged in to find myself in my old ilvl 359 gear and completely lost as to where to start catching up.
Here I am on the armory
I understand there's a legendary staff from Firelands, so I've started the quest for that. I've also unlocked the Firelands dailies and run the new heroics a few times and collected some loot drops.
I'm in average ilvl 369 gear right now, but the Raid Finder tool says I'm still ineligible to queue for raids.
So what should I be doing? Should I run Firelands and try to get the materials for the staff and hope for some upgrades along the way? Should I be doing the Molten Front dailies (are there any worthwhile upgrades there)? Should I just farm heroics and get Justice Points to buy ilvl 378 gear? I'd like to be eligible for Dragon Soul so I can finish it before the next expansion.
If you're goal is to be eligible for raid finder DS, you need a 372 ilvl. You're nearly there.
Looking at your Armory, the quickest upgrades that should push you over that ilvl requirement are Bracers and Boots. Both the Justice point and Valor point boots / bracers are Bind on Equip so they can be purchased from the AH, the justice point ones can be gotten rather cheaply on my server and I would imagine that would hold true on your server as well.
Another alternative to boosting your ilvl is the crafted PvP set. It has a 377 ilvl and can be used to supplement some of the harder slots to get to drop in the Hour of Twilight heroics. (the shoulders were a pain for me to get)
Before you go into LFR for the first time, i would look over this guide on Wowhead to familiarize myself with some of the fight mechanics.
Guide to Dragon Soul - LFR Difficulty
Run the new heroics - they drop 378 gear. If your realm is decently populated then you should try to start your own FL runs and put the mats for the staff on reserve. Maybe an experienced (in FL) guildie or friend can help you out with this. I know people still want to finish up the FL ach's or even get that first Rag kill.
Just keep running heroics and spend your VP/JP points and you'll be in LFR in no time. Once you get to around 380-385 ilvl then you should be able to run norm DS. Good luck!
Managed to pick up a bunch of new items in the last couple of days, and even managed to get in a quick LFR run. I had no idea what I was doing, but apparently we killed Deathwing. I'll have to watch those videos you linked.
LFR can sometimes be an awful experience. you'll find out what i mean if you keep running it; unfortunately, it's the easiest way to gear up if you don't have a guild to run with.
most of DS (even some heroics) are very puggable these days. try to get into a regular run, and you will probably find it more enjoyable. you should have no trouble healing at least the early bosses on normal.
I did LFR last night with a couple of my guild's best healers who are pretty well geared (about half their stuff is from heroic DS) and got a couple more items. I even did a PuG BT run for transmog stuff, which was kind of fun :)
I realize LFR is basically the bottom of the barrel in terms of raid quality and difficulty, but it got me to learn the simpler mechanics of each fight so I'll be ready to run normal mode next time. It was also fun because I got to meet the priest who took my spot after I left last summer and I was pretty impressed with her. Looking forward to trying normal (and, if there's time before MoP, heroic) mode DS and finishing up my T6 and T5 transmog sets, hopefully getting some achievements along the way.
Just guna add in a point. Normal, due to the nerfs, is pretty much easier than LFR now. Just saying.
I realize LFR is basically the bottom of the barrel in terms of raid quality and difficulty,
oh, i wasn't talking about the raid itself. that part is fine (at least as far as we can say DS is a "fine" raid). but you will see some or the worst of the worst in wow player behavior if you run it enough.
