Tbh, if you're just coming back to wow since 4.0.1 broke, the patch notes are rather daunting. But it would still be the best place too look for that info.

Shadow priests play pretty much the same. They added a few things but it's mostly passive damage abilities that don't change anything. The big thing is now you have to juggle the Empowered Shadows buff, so it's one more thing to pay attention to.
As for DPS, shadow priests are ok. Not as good as in wotlk, and to be competitive you have to have the warlock buff Dark Intent.
