SB takes longer to cast and as such does more damage and gets a better damage coefficient.
without emberstorm SB is (almost always) better to cast.

not at all. bane is what makes SB competitive and also improves immolate. it's a hugely important talent.
to explain a little better:
SB is a 3 second cast spell so it receives 86% of your SP as added damage
when you use bane it reduces SB to a 2.5 second cast but you still get the benefit from the longer _base_ cast time.
incinerate is a 2.5 second cast so gets 71% of your SP
without emberstorm to improve it, incinerate takes the same length of time to cast but scales less with gear.
for this reason, incinerate is a spell which should only be used by locks who spec deep enough into destruction to get emberstorm. 15% extra fire damage and a cast time reduction to incinerate push it ahead of SB.
what i'm saying is,
don't use incinerate if you're demo.
and definitely don't try to make SB worse to that incinerate gets better by comparison (which is what you'd be doing by dropping bane).
