Shadowlands question: Will covenants separate friends?

As me and my husband have been previewing covenants and such, I realize he is interested in a different covenant than me. However, we enjoy questing together and such. Can anyone in beta answer: If me and my hubby choose different covenants, will we be playing alone most of the time? Is it important that I choose the same one as him if we want to spend most of our WoW together?

Not at all. You'll be completing activities in all five zones (including The Maw) and Torghast, that can be played by 1 to up to 5 players. The covenants will grant you different abilities and cosmetic items, but most likely you'll treat your covenant like your Class Hall back in Legion.

I'm finding first-hand that it is NOT fun when you and your spouse / partner do not pick the same covenant and work at different paces. We play a few, and then both get frustrated and log out. Shadowlands still does not have the class balance it needs, BUT NOW, it's made the social aspect of the game even worse-- while playing solo is fine, it's created even worse problems.

How come? I play with multiple friends across different realms, even my IRL friends, none of them share the same covenant with me and we're just fine,
because different covenants benefit in different dungeons
. The more differantial the group - the better. For exaple Necrolord members can use Fleshcraft on dead slimes in
Plaguefall
to get a 3 minute aura to give your party
15% Haste
,
10% Damage Reduction
, and a
AoE damage proc
. Venthyr members can activate Anima Cages for 20 seconds in
Sanguine Depths
. During this time, any mob that died near the Anima Cage will grant one stack of
Sinfall Boon
, granting 5% damage and healing done, and so on...

Doing dungeons and raids are fine, but you will spend a lot of time doing Covenant only things. It's torn our Guild apart somewhat - we used to do quests together but folks are scattered all over now.

It is seriously only a matter of perspective. Yes, covenants have separate questlines to advance a character's standing within their covenant. Does this mean you cannot help? Not entirely. I think the only exception would be for phased portions. All other content can be completed together. May take time bouncing back and forth helping one another but that, in and of itself, can be part of the adventure! If you are allowing it to tear apart your guild, or even subject yourselves to having to play in the same covenant in order to do things together then I think you are merely allowing the game to beat you.
