My girlfriend rolled a shaman and I rolled a warlock at about the same time. I can tell you from what she's told me shaman class quests are much, much worse. Now that there's no dreadsteed quest line actually the Lock quests aren't all that bad.
Leveling a lock is also quicker because of your pet. But really it always comes down to what your play style is, with a shammy you can melee dps, cast dps, or heal, with a lock your choices are really dot dps, burst dps, or a hybrid of pet dps with either of those depending on how you spec.

Both Shaman and Warlock are great beginner casting classes. You can't go wrong with either class you choose in WOW honestly. I would go shaman because you get to be a caster (who has one serious advantage over other casters) who can wear mail. You can also be a great healer and a fantastic melee attacker. Your totem buffs make you group a lot stronger.
Is it just me or does Tremor Totem proc as soon as you get feared now? Maybe I've just been lucky but Warlocks haven't been able to fear me around anymore >_>

Locks are fun and survive well due to the pet plus you can drain tank, shammies can get in your face (enhancement), cast from range (elemental), or heal (resto). Both can be a real blast and fun to play, I will say however that shammies from about 25-45 are a pain as their mana efficieny is not the greatest but whatever suits your style go for it you can't go wrong.

Shaman!
You are the most overpowered class, all you have to do is cast frostshock to win.
Remember to keep reincarnation up and it will take ten alliance just to take you down.
Shamans are fine. Learn to play. Shamans are fine.
For Horde we had to kill two felhounds and bring back their hooves. They would then be used to create a sapta which you'd drink to see the elements. You'd search for the "Hidden Path" and talk to a giant Earth Elemental. He's like "sup. take this little pebble. You may think it's small but it can endure a #$%^ load of punishment whereas trees and other things in the world get owned. Remember patience, patience and did I mention patience? gtfo now" and boom earth totem :D word for word.
Horde Fire Totem quest was a little more difficult and involved a lot of running back and forth. It's worth it though because in the end of the chain quest you get to battle a fire elemental on a really high cliff. freaking epic.
Horde Water Totem quest was like 100 quests long. You'd finish Diablo1 before finishing your Water Totem quest for the first time (without quest helper). Have fun running around the world with this one. Btw you'll meet a troll at the end who's like "i got some sapta left. want to drink it?" Say no. He's trying to drug you.
Horde Air Totem quest was like "hey. talk to miss hoofmooface". So you go talk to miss hoofmooface and she's like "here take the air totem and have a cool buff that makes you run at mount speed for 30 minutes. come back later on and we'll have you do more quests" only she doesn't ever give you quests later on.
Then some troll hermit is like "omg the elements want to kill me. Gather plagued remains of spiders and bears so I can make a totem" only the parts suck ass. Then he's like "get feathers instead but only the ones from 6 specific trolls in the sunken temple" and you're like k done. Then you get a cool water totem trinket that owns your regular mana stream totem spell.
