The forest was silent. A gentle breeze raced through the branches of the tall trees. Birds chirped and bear roared. However, just a few paces out of the forest laid a small town on the shore. This town was known as Auberdine. In it, a few hundred kaldorei lived their lives. Thousands of years from now, people would call this place Darkshore, but for now, it is called home.
Around this time, when the last of the pale elves left the lands of Kalimdor, two kaldorei met. Salisha Witherarrow, an archer, and Tal’Daro Bearmaw, a druid, were two of many of the people of the night forest. They never met each other before until the day they both landed in Auberdine. Salisha had glorious long blue hair and a dark purple skin. Tal’Daro had moon silver eyes and long green hair. They soon fell in love with each other and spent years together protecting the forests.
Salisha bore a son many years later. He had his father’s silver eyes and his mothers blue hair. They welcomed the child with open and loving arms. They named their little boy Andissiel. Over the years the family raised the child in Auberdine. He had many friends as a child. They would all play down by the shoreline or in the forests. When the boy was twenty years, still young, Salisha and Tal’Daro had another child. This time a girl named Alannaria. Her glorious green hair and amber eyes made everyone in their family cry in joy every time they saw the young girl. Her parents soon paid more attention to the young Alannaria more so than Andissiel.
Andissiel grew into a well built elf. His father urged him to follow his path and join the druidic circle, yet the neglected Andissiel ignored his father and pursued a path in being a swordsman. His parents were disappointed and abandoned their son and returned their affection to Alannaria. The son left the family to be replaced by the daughter. Andissiel did not care. He was a happy man in what he did. He helped others and was pleasant to be with. Years passed without any contact between the son and the family. Not until the orcs invaded Kalimdor and Tal’Daro awoke from the emerald dream did they saw each other again. The meeting was brief, yet to the son it was monumental. The father druid gave little regard to Andissiel, and nevertheless went on his own way.
More years passed. Portals to other worlds opened, the undead in Northrend awoke, yet it did not matter. The elven family of Andissiel stayed in Auberdine. Until that faithful day when everything changed. The sky bled fire and the waters cried tidal waves. The Earth Warder returned. Azeroth was reckoned by Deathwing. The land of Darkshore was torn asunder to a point that it was not recognizable.
Auberdine was annihilated.
And hundreds perished. Andissiel awoke from a coma several weeks later to discover the fate of his beloved town. During the Sundering, he was flung from his post in Auberdine and suffered a few broken bones yet remained in fair shape.
“The waves of tranquility were turned into a hurricane. The loving earth broke and ruptured. The graceful winds turned violent,” Andissiel muttered looking over the destruction.
“Andissiel, I am sorry to inform you but your parents the great Tal’Daro and the magnificent Salisha were found dead by the shoreline. There was no chance to help them, we were too late,” The priestess told Andissiel as he looked at his ruined home.
The man held back a tear, “What of Alannaria?” He asked, fearing what the answer would be.
The priestess turned and pointed to the emergency refugee camp. Andissiel quickly sprinted to it. He found dozens of elves on stretchers crying out in pain, or silent from death. He looked over the wounded and dead. He finally found her. He rushed to Alannaria’s side and held her hand with both of his. She was in terrible condition. Her purple skin was bruised to an extreme point. Her left amber eye was oozing blood. The farthest both of her legs went were to her knees.
“Big brother?” She asked weakly, then coughed blood.
Andissiel let the tears of anguish fell from his silver eyes. “Yes, Alannaria I am here. Alannaria....I... I am sorry I was not with you for those years. I am sorry I could not have helped...” He choked up.
A slight grin grew on the young girl’s face. “Andissiel, it is ok! I...I am fine... Mommy and daddy will be with us...Mommy and daddy.....” She did not finish her sentence. Her arm went limp and fell. Andissiel broke out into a fit of crying.
I have lost everything. Anything that had a pulse, a heart beat, that loved or hated, is dead. Anything that gave or received, that talked and listened, that walked and slept, is dead. Anything and everything lies in the eternal and immortal void of death. To lose everything dear is to lose everything worth living. To lose anything is to lose hope. To lose both is to kill a man.
To some, death is a blessing. An escape from the hell that is life. A cowards escape. To some, death is eternal and has its own benefits. Yet the pain of lose is eternal to the living. The normal living creature does not live its days out in fear that this day could be very well their last. Some call it a curse because when the grim reaper comes they are unprepared. To others, it is a blessing. One could live their entire life with glee and joy without being hindered by the fact that it shall come crashing down, hard.
A flower is a prime example. It is created from the very earth that it shall spend its life on. It slowly grows a strong and firm stem for which the foundation of the rest of its existence. One could say that the stem is the flowers beliefs. It develops leaves branching away from the stem, the leaves branch away from beliefs. These beliefs are what we call 'doubt.’ Depending on the flower, or individual, it could have more doubt than others. And finally the bloom is born. Each petal represents an achievement in the flowers life. Eventually the flower shall give off pollen that helps life to continue around it. In due time, the beautiful plant shall wither and die, like everyone.
My life is a withered, pulverized, beat, destroyed, demolished, flower. If a flower is the prime example of life, then the cleated steel foot is the proverbial form of pain and death. It slowly stomps out the life force of the flower as it squishes the blossom into a haggard pile of misery. Tragic for the killed and beautiful flower, misery for the individual whose life came crashing down.
I have given everything. I gave my life, my soul, my will and my sanity. I gave it all and asked for nothing in return. I expected nothing. The only thing I expected was for everyone else to be happy and smile. That is all. And that was all I received. And I was happy. My entire life was based upon the idea that we live to make others lives easier. Then we would all be in one collection and we would all be happy. That was the idea. In theory it was grand. In practice, well that was another story. Some souls are doomed to a life of little happiness, I suppose.
I gave everything. I cherished the idea that I was doing good. That perhaps this was my reason in life. That is, until I lost everything. The home of peace’s pillars were shattered. The waves of tranquility were turned into a hurricane. The loving earth broke and ruptured. The graceful winds turned violent. And they all seem to be aimed at me. A hate crime against a being without hate.
I was captain of guard in Auberdine. The glorious town had stood tall and proud since the Sundering. I grew my childhood in Auberdine. I remember how all of my little friends would go down to the shore and fish, play, and have a good time. However, we soon grew up. Many left to outlying lands of Kalimdor and beyond, while others stayed. I was one of the few that stayed. The kaldorei of the town long ago decided to rebuild and expand the town after the Sundering.
From what I have heard it was like all those years ago, I think it was a smart move. In a few years it was a large port city, connecting the northern lands and the world. The people were proud.
And now, it lays in ruin. Destroyed by a giant lizard. It obliterated my home and killed my family! Thousands of years of prosperity gone in a matter of seconds. My people survived one Sundering, why was this any different? I swear on my family’s grave that my people shall find prosperity and the only way to find that is through death.
Death of the Aspect of Death itself.

Writers Commentary
-I am surprised there has been no, or lack of, fan fics or stories on the Catacylsm.
-I wrote this in honor of my favorite race and town, which now lies in ruin.
-I also used the back story of my first character on a RP server, so I thought it would be fitting.
-I doubt I will continue this with the other races. Light's Eclipse comes first. However I have some ideas, no promises.
-Enjoy

I was actually just about to start a one-shot myself, on my Priestess and the Shattering's impact on Auberdine. :P
I enjoyed reading it, though.

Thanks light and patty.
And knowing you patty, I am sure yours will be a lot better than mine and thus I will read it.

Auberdine is my favorite town too!
Which is kind of why my priestess nearly died in it <.< >.>
- Good read though! It'll probably be better when I don't skim over it though, but I'm kind of in a hurry. :P

Haha, it'd just be too similar. But... *blushes*

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
Everyone seems to love tragedy in Auberdine, all of a sudden! It's not like Deathwing completely annihilated it or anything... ;)

I've loved Auberdine since the first time I saw the town. I always imagined walking down the docks and sitting on the end of the one that goes to Azuremyst in the middle of the night. I guess it just made sense to homage my favorite town's destruction in some way with one character. =)
Also, I finished reading it all the way through, and very well written, /thumbsup

I always loved the town, but I hated questing in Darkshore. I'm going through it now with my priestess, and it's much more streamlined. Lor'danel looks lovely, but it's no Auberdine. ;)
