the conversion for warriors is 1 STR= 2AP.
If you notice all of the AP gems are simply the strength gems multiplied by 2. So use strength over AP. The only time you wouldn't would be if you got the +20 AP gem, since there is no +10 Strength Gem.

wih kings, 10 8 str gems= 88 AP, 10 20 APgems= 100 AP.
Not too much of a difference, but the cost is a lot more 20AP gems.
