Site is getting clunky

When WoWhead first came into the scene (refering to the the item database, not the talent calc) it was clean, crisp and sleek. Now the website is still very fast, but some areas are starting to look clunky after the um... new management moved in.
At the top, where it says Item Database, Tools, Forum, More, that's ugly and doesn't fit aesthetically with ANY of the rest of the site. Another example is in the profile page, where it lists comments made, too much space is dedicated to when a message was posted.
I'm all for website growth and evolution, but please maintain what made WoWHead so popular: Speed, sleek pleasing look, solid database. I think the second point here is starting to wane =(
Maybe I'm just being anal

I designed those tabs, just like the rest of the site. I guess they can't please everyone!

It's been that way since the comments system was released.

I'm gonna have to chime in agreement with Propane. The gradient hover effect matches nowhere and that's just an ugly yellow text color.

There was a whole other thread in here devoted to those tabs. You're super web-designer, etc, etc but I really liked the simplicity and crispness of the old tab look, as well. I think I said as much in the other thread.

Some points I am also worring about.... It seems there is a development that tends to add more and more features.
Don't overdo it.
I appreciate wowhead.com for its simple and clean way to offer, gather and rate informations.
So please, as mentioned.. keep wowhead.com furthermore as clean, minimalistic and functional as it ever has been and popular for.

Having seen a lot of websites come and fall, grow and die, even very good ones, I understand you can be worried about this, and I agree with you on the fact that "useless stuff" is not the way to go.
However I'd like to remind everyone that everyone at Wowhead knows about this and agrees aswell. There are a lot of features that don't go live, or get removed, because we don't feel there is any need for them, nor do they improve the website in any way. Every feature we are currently developing is fully integrated to the interface and won't make the site any "clunky", but then again it's a matter of opinions.
Remember that a website cannot grow without offering changes and/or new features. This doesn't mean we're going to implement whatever idea comes up without checking if it's going to be useful, etc. But this definetly means we are not planning to "stagnate" and stay as we are now.
As a last note, ZAM has nothing to do with the recent new features on Wowhead. If something looks clunky, they're the last ones to blame. :)

I agree with you, "stagnation" can never be an useful option.
My point was to keep the "status quo" of a clean, functional (and minimalistic) GUI for information supply and prevent overboarding, useless or missplaced content. That doesn't discards the implementation of new features.
Anyway...
However I'd like to remind everyone that everyone at Wowhead knows about this and agrees aswell.
This doesn't mean we're going to implement whatever idea comes up without checking if it's going to be useful, etc.
Never expected anything else. ;)

Per your complaining, the striped background is gone.

Not that it bothers me, but it's still there.

Any suggestion for a more appropriate text color?

Hot pink, as my text should be.

If you ask for the stars, you might get a

To the point: I think the text color on the tabs is fine. I think it's just the gradient that isn't really anywhere else in the site that makes them stand out a bit. Maybe a flat color background? (#282828, perhaps)
And, Sko -- I know you have better stuff to do :). I only critique things I like ... so if nothing else, take it as a compliment.

Getting rid of those stripes made a world of difference. The cream yellow doesn't fit anywhere on the site, but it stands out just a little as a base for people to start using WoWhead. It no longer pokes your eye and screams 'hey look at me.'
OP is happy with the change <3
