So for old times we ran MC...
Return to board index
Initially it was six of us. As soon as the suggestion was made we grew to 8 and by the first boss we were 10. Ranging from level 73 to level 80 with a single tank we rolled through an instance where I originally learned serious raiding.
Its very different at 80. The bosses are still 3 levels above us but the trash is not. The key trash pulls that we had to do just so, were easy. Even the "tricky" boss fights were manageable with 10. Yes in a couple of fights, like the decursing fight, things got a little hectic.
Through it all though, I was struck over and over by how this instance compares to the BC raids. When I was in MC with 39 other people, as an assistant raid leader, I was too busy running my part of the raid and doing my raid job, to fully take in the scope of that instance between the actual boss fights. This time I was able to look around, and to remember what it was like to be there with 39 other people.
The drops were great too. First in progression then on farm, I cleared that instance every week for eight months. Building DKP. Weighing whether to spend it or save it. Looking for particular drops. Sometime losing the bid, sometimes electing to wait in hopes that Rag would drop something I wanted more, and sometimes feeling that deep satisfaction when I acquired a particular item. In those days when someone lost a tough bid and still said "grats", everyone knew they meant it. Compared to Wrath gear, the stats are in some ways pretty weak. But in context they are still pretty cool.
So kudos to Blizzard. A raid of grander and scope that set a high bar. BWL and AQ40 were great also, but for most of us MC was our introduction to 40 man raiding. Even now it still wears well, at 80 the attunement quest takes 10 minutes. Gather a few of your friends, and tour MC, its a great break from the heroic and rep grind.
