FOR THE HORDE!

Here's my 2 cents. Pretty much the alliance is made up of young kids, who invite their friends to play WOW and subsequently join the same server and faction..and older adults..who either join their children in playing or just enjoy playing themselves. The adults for the most part don't take the game so serious and thus don't quite become the experienced gamer. They are in it more for the conversation and relaxation. The kids don't all grasp the complexity of the game. can't tell you how many times I try to take control of a BG's issuing commands only to watch fighters blissfully hopping around doing the exact opposite of what was required to win. As for the spammers on the trade line..it's amazing the courage, people find to speak in a vulgar fashion, that they would never have in real life, in front of their parents or teachers. Unless Blizzard starts to moderate the chat lines..your pretty much down to the choice of ignoring it or stop playing.
As for the horde....mostly late teen to mid 20's serious gamers..who know if you want to succeed you need to be on the horde side. I have a family member, 18 years old, him and all his friends, strictly hordes. Who doesn't want to be a anti-hero bad guy at that age.

I've played alliance since I started in Vanilla, near the end of the AQ event. In Cataclysm, I started playing a horde character, just to see the difference in story line. And what I saw is this, going non-bias.
Horde: Horde players seem to have this over zealous attitude. Whenever something comes up faction wise, there's bound to be a "FOR THE HORDE!" comment, or "Lok'tar ogar!" It's very rare that it doesn't. The horde also seems to get every chance they get to bash alliance players for, well, just playing alliance. I can rarely say that I play alliance horde side without being bashed for doing so. The horde is far more elitist in the long run and have larger e-peens and will go at any extent to dislike the alliance. I have lost friends irl who play this game because they found I played alliance while they played horde.
Alliance: Alliance is much more lax in terms of content. They rarely win BGs for the reason of horde being rather elitist in BGs and PvE. We only manage to win Alterac Valley because people know how to play that one on alliance. Otherwise, we don't know how to win because we have no reason to. Horde has always won (at least on the battlegroups I've been in). They take raiding much more casually and mainly do x-mog runs now. Alliance players tend to be much more joking and jovial, some are more... immature. But both sides have people like that.
Over all, it's just how used to a faction you are. Those who have devoutly played horde are bound to despise playing alliance because they're not used to it, and vise versa. It more depends on the people you encounter, not the faction. Each server is different in that means. Both factions have their immature trolls, both factions have their elitist a**holes. Just /leave trade and move on. Trade hasn't been really used for trade for awhile in my memory. It's mostly been used for LFG, LFM and so on. It's more about stepping out of the comfort zone than it is anything else.

First of all, before I really get this topic rolling, I want to be clear on at least one point: my goal with topic is NOT to start a flame war, nor to offend anyone who might enjoy playing Alliance (or Horde, for that matter). This topic is based on my limited experience with two realms (Alliance-side on Aerie Peak and Horde Side on Area 52).
So I attempted to play Alliance for a while... and I'm not sure I'll ever try that again.
As I prefaced above, it could very well just be the attitude on Aerie Peak, but since I'm not about to uproot again (I have a 61 hunter on AP already that's saved up a couple thousand gold) it's Aerie Peak or nothing if I'm to ever to play Alliance again. Or, I suppose, I could transfer...
What's the problem?
Well, don't get me started on what the trade channel has turned into. 2. Trade is always a bit dodgy, no matter what server, but Alliance-side on Aerie Peak it is just the dregs of the dregs. People making anal jokes, people recruiting for naked BG's (such defeatism...), people calling other people names because of who-knows-why reasons... It's awful, and that's just the trade chat.
You get out in the game world to play instances, quests or BG's and... wow. I could FEEL it. A massive drop in talent, or perhaps more accurately, a massive drop in ability/willingness to work as a team.
Not that it's happy-clappy, kumbaya-time 24/7 in the Horde-side of Area 52, but by and large players on the Horde-side of Area 52 know how to (and seem to enjoy to) work together. So much so that I've gotten used to it. No one EVER plans on losing BG's on the Horde-side on Area 52 and even when we're down 0-2 in WSG we still believe we can win (and sometimes we do!).
Anyway, I know just enough about statistics to know this means nothing, but nonetheless in my limited experience with these two realms, the stereotypes of the factions have been somewhat 'proven' true.
Anyone else have strongly different experiences between factions? Maybe your experience went the other way, maybe you have had positive times with Alliance in a server and negative times with Horde in another?
Let's just say I not only prefer Horde (for lore and visual reasons), I now also prefer Horde because of the players I have encountered.
How about you?
No offense taken... However, I do have some feedback.
As an alliance-main player I could talk about how its not like that on this server bla bla bla but instead I will talk about Cataclysm. About halfway through Cata an RL friend started a serious talented raid guild horde side on Kil'jaeden(*) And I experienced much of the same you have, Less trade spam, less trolling, less goofing around in general. After Cata I had nothing to do so I started an alliance toon on the same server... Same thing. Less of all the garbage. It varies from server to server. I have horde on Cairne... My god it's troll central. Entire raids set up ALL DAY to do nothing but wipe alliance raids for Ordos and Celestials... Not one or two guys, 30+ horde just griefing for no reason.
On Aggramar there is A LOT of alliance side trolling and the exact same amount on horde side Aggramar. But Alliance side Nazgrel, I rarely if ever see any trade spam or trolling in general.
You mentioned Naked BGs and that reminded me of the time I started an entire guild called Belinda Or Bust and on AV weekends we would all Q into AV and rally the entire raid to go into Belinda's bunker and defend her... So funny. Weird thing was we won a lot due to Horde not knowing what to do about us... Good times.
Gimmick BGs aren't all bad that is just enjoying the game in their own ways. I know people that do 2s naked just to get it over with ASAP for points... It's a personal choice, IMO
On stats from BGs: I have 17 90s. 5 of them are horde and I have never seen any difference in BG win rates outside of alliance winning AV slightly more often.
All I am trying to say is, your experience is not a case study on the differences between the factions. there are hundreds of servers and you have played on 2. Not a fair comparison.
You had a bad experience on one alliance server at the end of an expansion where FAR less people in general are taking the game very seriously. If that experience has soured you to alliance then so be it but it is far from a judgement on all of us...

I know the thread is a necro but it's still an age old argument.
Personally I just don't get the us vs them attitude.
I play both factions and thoroughly enjoy both, I'd go as far to say that if you don't then you are cheating yourself out of one of the best experiences the game has to offer.
As for the way players behave, well there are dbags on both sides, no side is worse than the other, and negative experiences vary day to day, from server to server.
I also have US and EU accounts, and the same applies. Jerks are Jerks.

^^ So much this.
Each faction is made up of people. People will always be a distribution of normal, some total toolbags, some awesome, but most of us are just people doing their own thing that you never hear about.
Part of the problem is that we only hear from one or the other; nobody talks about a simply competent player who kept everyone alive through the dungeon without trash talking. Or the random guy on a PvP realm who wasn't ganking lowbies or stealing nodes.
The awareness bias is due to the fact that the extremes get more attention.
I have also played both sides, and on different servers. On one server the Horde population is generally pretty awesome, with very few trollish types (despite being actual Trolls..) The Allies of that realm aren't really anything - they are horribly underpopulated and even with CRZ it can be hard to get a group together.
On my other realm the Alliance is better, and my horde toon on that realm gets no attention because that population of trolls are loud and simply horrible.
If you find one you don't like, try a different realm.

If your argument is that Trade Chat is the equivalent to five year olds home alone for the first time and only on the Alliance side, you must not spend much time on the Horde side. As far as working together as a unit to win, both sides work as hard as the other to win. I think your problem is the groups you were in, not the servers or sides.
