So, I trust Wowhead more than the rest of the internet.
I haven't bought more than one game that costs even half of what Skyrim costs in over a year (and I ended up barely playing the one game), but I loved Oblivion. Is Skyrim worth 60 bucks?

If you have the hardware, then I would give you a YES made out of gold and adorned with gems and christmas lights.

asking "should I buy Skyrim" sounds to me like someone asking "Should I breathe?"
in both cases the answer is a clear, solid, irrefutable, undeniable, irrevocable YES

If you loved Oblivion, Skyrim will make you drown in your own semen.

Okay, I know what you're trying to say, but that only makes me want Skyrim less when you phrase it that way.
My concern is that, because Nvidia and Sony are both scum, my video card drivers are from 2008. When Thror says 'if you have the hardware' it makes it sound like I'm going to get 2fps throughout the game. Is it a massive graphical step up from Oblivion? Or can I turn the settings down such that it isn't? Because Oblivion runs fine and I'm not a stickler for super good graphics.

Well it sounds like rankkorr has a really bad pc too from the previous page, and seems like he got it running. I am definitely not saying that there aren't people who have pretty frustrating technical difficulties with Skyrim though, I know of a few. But they seem to be a minority, and that happens with every game.
And Skyrim graphics can be toned down pretty severely.

Google search Toms hardware Skyrim benchmark.
(I can't link)
I found it and it was a bunch of numbers and letters gobbledygook, same as any computer thing. Still, they said it wasn't a big graphical step up from Oblivion and it still looks fine on low settings so I'll give it a try.

:/
After Nights of the Nine and Shivering Isles Oblivion had about 200 hours of gameplay. Skyrim has 300-400 hours. The visuals are stunning and unlike Oblivion the entire game dosnt take place in a grassy field. The combat system is better and they fixed arrow combat, they copied the fallout lockpick system, added diagnal walking motion (finaly) and the voice acting is much improved. ll the races look grittier and more real, women no longer look like transvestites, and bandits, beggars, and guards no longer all share the same dialauge.
The game is also a lot less buggy. Open world exploration is more fun. And most importantly they fixed the level scaling, you no longer go from smiting weaker enemies with a single blow to getting WTFPWNED by the stronger ones. The leveling system is smoother, and the skill points add a lot more wiggle room in making a class and give more diversity depending on your play style (for example theres now actualy a point to using daggers if you play stealth).
The dragon shouts are an awesome addition to the game, they are fun to use and after slaying a dragon to get one you really feel like you earned it. And they are also very satisfieing to use on enemies, sending enemies flying, setting them on fire, slowing time. ect.
If thats not good enough I would suggest reading the dozen or so raves about it over the last 15 pages ;)
Or read the review I posted earlier
You know back in Morrowind one of the most fun things was exploration, you could have fun without even focusing on any of the Main story or faction quest lines. You would go out into the world, walk over a hill and spot some tomb, kill a bunch of undead inside maby get some treasure, maby on the way out you come across some naked Nord by the side of the road who was robbed by a witch, or on Solsthium you could club baby seals to death just for the hell of it and become the chief of a beer hall after slaying a monster in a very Hamlet like quest.
Skyrim recreates this perfectly. Today I went randomly explodring the wilderness, cleared out a cave of vampires and finaly got to test out my fire shout. On the way out I encountered a group of Thalmar taking away some Nord prisoner and decided to kill them. I brought the first one down from the top of the hill with arrows, when the second guy reached me I knocked him to his death in a spectacular fashion with a good old FUS ROH DAH that sent him flying all the way back down the hill, the third guy a spellcaster I dispatched with a very nice finishing move sword through the chest.
The beutifull landscapes and stunning enviorment and soundtrack make this game such an amazing experience. You never know whats going to be over the next rise and whats goingt o come at you around the next bend in the river.
RIP my social life.
XD

The graphics are much better than Oblivion, just fiddle with your graphics a little.

thank you hun.... =)
they REALLY should add a damn marker for that house on the miscellaneous task section. (Then again, this is a problem only because the towns are so big =D)

¬.¬ derp....... I traveled ON FOOT from whiterun to riften to start the thieves guild quest, only to find out when I got there that I could had hired a ride there from a cart nearby that teleports you to any city you like.
and cheap too, 20 coins is like pocket change.
ohh well, I guess it was kinda more fun to go on foot :P plenty of sight-seeing, got jumped by 3 more necromancers, 1 drug-dealer, and 1 bandit that apparently thought it was a bright idea to attack unarmed, and wearing rags, an opponent fully armored and armed to the teeth. Natural Selection at work =)

Something kinda cool I just noticed. If you run at somone with your weapon drawn they back away from you as aposed to just standing there.

/sighs, what I was just afraid may happen, just happened.
This is why I didn't wanted to advance the main quest yet, because I was afraid dragons would go on a rampage killing NPCs left and right.
I just awakened the dragons, and now after I traveled to windhelm to join the dark brotherhood, there comes a dragon and merrily torches the whole town, killing 80% of its population before I was able to bring him down (hey =( I'm a dagger specialist, all I do is stab-stabby-stabdooo when there's a giant behemoth flying at 50 feet in the air what am I to do?) I tried leaving the city to draw him away from there, but nooo the population just HAD to go out of the city and chase the dragon too
/sighs.....
I shudder to think how many quests I've just missed now that windhelm just lost 80% of its population (After a body recount, more than 30 dead :S)
Is there a shout to allow me to bring those bastards down from the sky?
Well, I could use the console-command "Resurrect 1" to bring them back up, but then I'm afraid of triggering a bug or something, its kinda dangerous to use that command carelessly

I've spent about 28 hours on the game this weekend, and I still feel that it's only just beginning. Man, the Dark Brotherhood chain...
Back to playing.
