I think that Oblivion gave me a little 'glimpse' into the future. It was one of the first single player 'open world' games I've ever played, with the feeling that much of the environment was interactable. I hope, that by my death, computer AI is more intelligent, clever, smarter, and creative than humanity. I'd like to own a PC that can provide me with a rich and immersive experience. I'd like to see virtual reality rival reality as well. I want to be able to walk through the virtual world, interact with it, etc, on a complete level, or one that rivals and exceeds reality. I want to walk into a tavern in Red Dead Redemption CCCLXXVII, and have the characters walk up to me, and be able to debate about the value of capitalism, or give me their recipe for Alfredo. I want each character to have responsibilities, fears, weaknesses, personality, advancing age, memory, beliefs, logic, etc... When will this happen? Will it hurry up?
Sounds awsome, but wouldn't that be dangerous you think? Real-life wouldn't exist for many.
One controlled by me, in which I can pause, or reset, or save, or load, or whatever... I get tired of Red Dead Redemption, I can pop in Just Cause 2 and do some parachuting, imagine a game like world of warcraft with that level of technology. It would still be crap, but ya know, immersive crap. Sounds stinky.
On another note tho, how would combat systems and long-time movement work? Even if you don't have to actually swing a 200kg axe, it would be tiring to even pretend and dodging, running etc in-game. It would take weeks to travel the distance that you can just run in most games.
Or are we talking some kind of pure dreaming not involving physical movement?

they're not, you can use the constructor kit to figure that one out.
Hostile NPCs scale with your level, but friendlies are stuck at a set level and dont scale up.
its pretty noticeable when you try to do the "Defense for Bruma" quest at lvl 1 and watch as the guards mow down the daedra like they're twigs, and then try again that same quest at lvl 45 only to see 2 daedra wipe the floor with 14 guards.

I guess it would depend on the game, and the technology.

Actually it's only the console version that was broken. Then I don't care anyways =) PC all the way.
My 360 has already showed me the crap dirt it can produce, haven't used it in over a year. That's the reason I played Fable 3 for 1 hour only.... I know some will call me graphics-nerd, but that's me.

Ye saw that in the comments of the site you linked, the downloads from steam are still down until midnight tho. Might pick it up in the local store and have it ready for activation :P
Is the realease midnight in all time zones?
E: According to Steam it's 01:00 in my time zone, which means I can time it with tonights raid which ends as latest 23:00. 2 hours preparation! Pizza, crisps, drinks and all, mohaha =D

You play as a customizable human. What weapons/magic you use/upgrade are entirely up to you.

What type character are you all going to make?
I think I'm going to make my character into my usual assassin/mage type character. I like being able to 'skip' stuff by sneaking by. Oblivion is 10x easier if you are always invisible. But, I also like being able to heal myself and paralyze my enemies. Plus alchemy works really well for poisons with my rogue side and potions for my mage side.

I usually end up as mage/warrior when I do new chars in Oblivion, calling it Warmage =P Usually goes for Alchemy too since it's so damn easy to level with. The school with healing, fireball and cold touch are first picks for any mage I create as well, and melee weapons are really important.
Personally I've never liked skipping in Oblivion, I've only been using stealth in combat for crits. But now you got me turn on for a assassin. Guess pure assassin would be totally crushed by "real" enemies, like big, full-plated ogres or let's not even talk about the drakes. =P
Ah well... Haven't looked much at the skill-design anyways, I like surprises, so I'll just see. =)

As far as I know, you can choose out of 10 races. Altmer, Dunmer, Bosmer, Orc, Imperial, Nord, Redguard, Orc, Khajiit, Argonian.
And yeah, The Elder Scrolls games have no "classes" in them per se (aside from any funky name you make up for your custom set of skills).
Oh and I will probably roll a bosmer thief, because, uh... The Elder Scrolls games are always full of lots and lots of things lying everywhere and they make some very good and easy profit. Plus thieves guild quests in Morrowind and Oblivion were pretty good. Combat style will be same as in Oblivion and Morrowind = a combination of kiting+archery and stealth+backstabs.

In honor of the theme I'm definatly gonna make a big ass
Nerd
Nord with an axe while I get the feel of the game.
I'm also gonna roll a stealth class too though, with arrows actualy doing damage now that looks like it's gonna be fun as %^&*.
I normally don't do magic classes since Morrowind managing spells in battle was akward as %^&*, and in Oblivion it was either too weak (if you did a hybrid class) or too powerful (backpedaling and spamming fireballs). But the magic system in Skyrim looks too damn awesome to ignore.

Could be something too. Don't like Bretons though. =P

Tons of 10/10s pouring in. Even Eurogamer gave it a 10/10. Excited for this and Skyward Sword--the week before my birthday no less~
I've got my copy preloaded on Steam. $10 says I log a 48 hour marathon on the weekend.
