Here's one for you.
You already see them at the begining of Ulduar, but they are actually called Kirin Tor Battle Mages. Well, dont' you think the Kirin Tor fit in real well with this xpac? The B-Mages will basically be concidered a Melee Caster type. All of their spells are short range (10 yd at most) and they can dual-wield Daggers and swords. Here's the trip. If they spec into it, there could be a tallent called something like "Dual-Wield Specialization." This tallent allows the Battle Mage to wield a dagger or 1h Sword in the Main hand and a Staff in the Off Hand!
A healthy mixture of Magic and Melee attacks would comprise of their arsenal.
How about them apples? =D
Personally, this idea sounds crazy good.
But don't you think leather would be more appropriate?
A mix of leather, talents, a plate chest, and MAYBE! for an extra goody for survival, you know the useless "shirt" spot that serves no real purpose?
Give them a chainmail kind of thing. Like a relic. Each one gives you a certain advantage. Like absorbing damage, or converting damage into mana/energy/rage w/e
Or just normal buffs like "200 extra spellpower to: _____"
I really like the whole idea xD
I was thinking for trolls they could create a Berzerker class, possibly a duel-wielding mail wearing dps which serves as a fury warrior/rogue reminiscent hybrid with gigantic leaping capabilities and super-rapid self-heals.
I forgot to add the trolls, doh! Forgot the Humans too, man I'm off today.
I like the Berzerker idea too, but they've traditionally not been dual wielders. That would be more akin to a Primal, I think.
They didn't really define the racial differences more deeply simply because of gameplay though I think. In the game, if certain races really were far better for a particular class than others, then there would be huge backlash on Blizz for it.
In warcraft 2 the berserker units used two one handed axes, so they're fine for duel weilding. Of course they were considered berserkers cause the orc warlocks fed the troll axe throwers special potions to make them into the berserkers, making the regenative abilities better.

Oh yeah, I didn't even think of them, was thinking of the Throwing-Spear-using ones in WC3. Sorry bout that. :D
No worries, I mainly remember that because the picture in the book for them was awsome, giant troll charging forward with swords sticking out his arms and shoulders.
If you read past my hateful comment i have already written a full apology to Mavik.
All classes are just combinations of melee/dps/healing that use melee weapons/ or spells and theres almost a limit to how many distinctly new classes u can make without them feeling the same.
I like the Night elf Sentinel Idea would make implementing spellbreakers somewhat reasonable / balanced in terms of faction classes.
One thing I'm not too sure about is any healing spells with this class. Mages aren't normally known for their healing capabilities... would you care to elaborate on why you mentioned them? I'd like to know more about the idea before I say it would be better to cut it out of the class.
TBH: I'm not sure what I was thinking there. I guess since I was basically suggesting that we beef up the Armor of a Mage, nerf his range completely, and throw him into the thick of Melee Combat, I figured "Hell... why not?"
But yeah. you're right about this one. After getting a bit of sleep and lookign it over again, I do agree that that healing thing was ignorant... >< Scratch that part.
And I'd like to apolgise to Mavik, It started out as Constructive critism, but thoughts of the countless melee that essentialy 1 shot me once they get close enough to hit angered me. Your idea has as much validity as mine, both are just speculations and ideas, and I have no right to say it's just a class thats modified. After all, every class is a Warrior or Mage thats Modified.
Don't give it another thought, Bud. I was over it seconds after hitting the Submit button... Just remember one thing.

((believe it or not, I was told that by one of my best friends who has Down Syndrome... gg, Jeff... gg... ))
