If i were you i'd drop LW for Tailoring, not skinning. LW is very hard to level and expensive to level without skinning, and has no benefits for a Mage in the end. Skinning will allow you to at least sell leathers to make some cash.
As for dps gain? It depends, the only thing that's exclusive to tailors is the embroideries, However it is an excellent way to get the mats for the crafting recipes for stuff like the Merlin's Robe.

lightweave embroidery equates to about 80 SP, making it the best dps caster profession bonus. Tailoring is well worth it.
thanks a bunch. and i worked out the #'s on beneficial prof's for mage and ench(23spx2rings=+46) & LW (76sp to bracers-30 sp from average enchant= +46) same benefit. =)

So you want to spend 1000's of Gold for a 46 more SP to your bracers? Especially when you could be doing Tailoring and enchanting, both which would benefit you much more.
Can't beat logic like that.

Since they all pretty much give you 46/47 extra SP, the question is the other benefits.
Making your own leather/mail = not much help to a mage.
Making your own stamina-based leg enchants = not much help to a mage.
Enchanting your own gear = a lot of help to a mage.
Having to pay for all your mats cause you're not a skinner = bad.
Not having to pay for mats cause disenchanting comes built in = good.
Alchemy would be a decent option too thanks to double-duration flasks, except it also runs into the "have to pay for mats" problem. There's a reason Tailoring/Enchanting is such a popular combo.

Skinning was l lvled with lw so it was free...and when u have friends with tailoring it's not needed to make yourself gear.

thats y this topic was started... to see if that embroidery was worth it. i got my answer but then ppl had to say that LW skinning was pointless. and i had to let ppl know wats up. LW skinning is ez to lvl and has he same benefit @ max'd as enchanting. BUT i want that extra dps from tailoring. therefore ill remove skining and lvl tailoring

No. People said Tailoring + Leatherworking isn't a great combo. And that, as a mage, you'd benefit more from something else, like Enchanting, than you would from Leatherworking.

46 sp from enchanting is better the 46 sp from LW.. thats odd

Wait, I think I might be out of the loop. The Lightweave Embroidery cloak enchant from Tailoring is still proc-based, right? It's the best DPS increase for PvE, but for PvP, JC + Enchanting is still the best, right? You just get the straight up +46sp from both and don't have to worry about coordinating your burst damage with your procs. That's still correct, isn't it?
