Omen is the threat meter. As far as tanking, I'm guessing you are pretty low since you are talking about twinks... What level is this?
Anyways, twinks have always been little pricks. I wouldn't worry about them. Your issue is lack spell power at that level, and good luck finding tanking pieces with spell power. I don't think you have SoV yet either. Protadins don't really get good till you max a tree out. Then it starts getting exciting. Keep your taunt at the ready and expect twinks to do a lot of threat. They ARE using lvl 60 enchants, so you can't expect anything less than them doing way too much damage.
Personally, I like ret for leveling once Divine storm is on the menu. But low levels with JoL and all the fun aoe grinding is awesome.
Oh, I forgot, if you can find a nice high level person, grind out 150g or so, and have them put golden spellthread on your legs. That will bump your threat, stam, and aoe grinding a LOT.

I believe that's omen. His settings are just different. If you are a new to realm toon, you probably want 2 farming professions. Like herb/mining and skinning. Sell everything, and get as much gold as possible.
Still being in mail sucks, but you can pretty much grind at an insane rate straight up to 54, and then you run into a bit of a wall.
At your level, spell power is better than attack power, but you will want strength and AP once you cap out the tree.
Side note- Improved RF only reduces your damage intake. It doesn't improve your threat any more. It's still a major talent, but better at end content when tanking heroics and such.

I've tanked as holy, ret and prot during all levels excluding 60+ only my prot paladin tanked then.
Prot is by far the easiest with Blessing of Sanctuary, but it is viable with ret or holy.
