Well, hopefully if they were to pull threat just based on your normal rotation, you would have Dark Command up seeing as you don't normally use it.
If Dark Command is on CD, as Zetta said, your screwed.

snap aggro, especially on multiple targets, is very difficult for us. We lack the aoe taunts that paladins, warriors, and druids all have.
Basically, if there's only one or two mobs, your dark command and death grip will get them back onto you... any more than that, and there really isnt anything you can do - the other player hopefully has something that lets them drop threat, but if not they're screwed until your runes are back up and you can spend a few seconds bashing the enemies.
I explain this to people when I run instances with them - my ability to re-gain aggro, especially on multiple targets, once i've lost it is severely gimped compared to other tanking classes. If the DPS and healer want to stay alive, they need to let me get a threat lead (which really doesnt take more than 3-4 seconds most of the time).
As long as you mark a target for single-target DPS to attack, there generally isnt a problem with threat (unless the DPS are retarded and attack non-marked targets).

Is it me or does it feel like DPS has just forgotten about single targeting?
In BC I pushed up into Hyjal / BT level raiding as a rogue and it was all about locking all DPS to a single target and wtfowning it...
It seems now that I'm tanking, most pulls (even with marks) DPS just run around and fight whatever they damn well please.
Am I the only one who is having issues with this? It's been making life as a tank hell because of mages who pull 2k+ DPS in heroics while attacking the unmarked mob while I'm holding threat on skull...
Maybe I expect too much being a former raider... Ugh.
Edit: I appearently can't spell for the life of me. Fixed some errors.

I usually open with DnD on 3+ mob pulls then IT, PS, PE and then just start into a normal rotation. It works out fantastically so long as nobody breaks the kill order.
About half an hour ago I was in a group where the healer left after three pulls because the DPS were all over the place (with marks up mind you) and blamed it all on the fact that I was a DK.
People, please understand that DK's don't have strong "snap aggro," it takes a few moments to build it up, unless were on one specific target. This may change with the cooldown of HB being removed, but we shall see.
I'm glad to see players like Kaer who still have a sense of a DPSers roll. Most people just love to see themselves on top of the charts, which mind you is awesome, however it means nothing if you cause a wipe or get yourself killed because you couldn't follow some simple orders.

Personally I use Engineering as my backup, if I'm struggling to grab AoE threat from a second mob I can throw down an explosive to grab 500-1k threat on the targets, at least enough to hold them until D&D has recharged.

I agree with whoami4, I think DPS characters experience a bug where they just do not see the markings you put on mobs anymore.
Also, you could always go unholy and have Unholy Blight. In frost presence, that's a great way to snap up multiple adds. It works great for me in AN (though we'll have to see what the Bone Shield nerf does for UH tanks).
