I'm pretty sure all tanks will know what weapon I am talking about because they are just weapons we all commonly come across while doing dungeons. If you do not know, please feel free to just simply search them on the site, because I honestly forgot how to link weapons. But I believe it should not be a problem because you can just compare and contrast the two.
Why is it that when I'm reading a Best in Slot Pre-Raid topic the weapons listed are Sun Strike and Mace of Transformed Bone? Then I look to Tol Barad and see that the Darkheart Hacker is just enough of a better weapon than the latter that it is worth doing the dailies, getting the reputation, and using that Axe. How come I never see anyone caring about this weapon but people still caring about Mirror of Broken Images. You have to go right past it to get that trinket.
1.
Elementium Fang
should be better than all the others.
2. I wouldn't exactly consider any Tol Barad reputation/badges reward a mandatory pre-raid option. Most people who are serious about raiding probably don't want to grind dailies for weeks for a weapon that lets them
start raiding
. Plus, buying the weapon means you're gonna grind even longer for your trinket.

Read up on your class/spec is the best advice.

@Narragaan - No the Darkheart Hacker was there the whole time. I was just wondering why they don't include it in BiS lists. And yes the Mirror of Broken Images is amazing. But when I got Exalted, I had enough to get both the Darkheart Hacker and the Mirror of Broken Images.
No offense, but I don't expect to see any weapon but the Fang on a pre-raid BiS list. A BiS list including
Mace of Transformed Bone
for example is no BiS list. It's a general gearing guide. BiS lists feature what's best-in-slot. As our gearing stategy isn't too complex, there's hardly any room for sidegrades or certain combinations of several items that make just as much sense as combinations of other items.
According to various sources we focus on mastery, then dodge and parry. Except for the Fang, none of the weapons mentioned (including the TB axe) features both of those stats. Granted, the axe has 5 more mastery rating than the fang - but expertise instead of parry. Through reforging, you can turn 31 expertise into parry or dodge.
So what's BiS here?
47 expertise and 5 mastery or 55 parry?
TL;DR
BiS lists feature BiS items. The axe isn't
the
best weapon pre-raid. A list that features ALL viable 346 tanking weapons can hardly be considered a BiS list.

Personally, I went with Sun Strike for the hit; Hit > Expertise IMO especially with the "bugfix" to CS/HotR. Same reason I am currently using the Soul Blade instead of the Mace of Acrid Death; a little hit is worth more to me at this point than a bit of Parry (not to mention the weapon looks 100x cooler).

What "bug fix" makes Hit > Exp?
The one where they changed HoR to key off the first hit.
Originally, if you missed your targeted mob, the others in range around you could still be hit. The hotfix made it so that if you miss the targeted mob, then there is no chance you can hit anyone else.
So now in a pack of mobs, having your HoR miss costs you a crapton of threat.

So what happens if the first hit of HoR is dodged or parried?

assuming youre being sarcastic pezz...but for those who havent been reading; if its dodged or parried, it acts like a miss and there is no aoe.
Exactly. And expertise does a better job of pushing failed HoR hits off the table than Hit does.

More importantly, does that effect Crusader Strike (per Arothand's post)?
Missed CSs (and HotRs) don't generate HP anymore. Anyway, if you run into threat issues because of one (two or even three) missed abilities, chances are either you or your raid is doing it wrong. Don't stack threat stats (btw. expertise is indeed superior to both hit and strength) - you need that "bit of parry".
