Just to touch on farming and leveling
There are only about 10 areas in the entire game you can even really do AoE grinding any faster than doing single target damage. almost all areas that have mobs in them either are a) too spread out so getting 20 mobs together is difficult at best or b) have caster mobs which you cannot AoE down. Those that don't fit the bill one either of those mostly have too slow of respawns to really make grinding via AoE faster than simply questing
My point on this is that AoEing doesnt really necessarily mean faster leveling. it means faster time killing those particular mobs. A good quest order (easily done using a mod like questhelper) is in almost all cases faster for both leveling and grinding out cash.
I use FFB just fine on my mage, who is now level 77. the build i am curently using is

last 3 points going into pyromaniac. Using stam/int/SP/crit gear (with some haste because leveling cloth sucks). i'd say about 30% of all mobs I burn down before they even touch my ice barrier and another 50% die after hitting ice barrier once. One FFB crit is hitting for over half of an equal level mobs health with ignite and crits happen nearly every mob i face.
A frostbolt spec gains AoE dominance for grinding and.....well thats pretty much it. oh and a faster casting nuke
