Tier 7 items and defense

I've been running a few of these quick raid instances lately and gained two parts of the tier 7 set, namely the
gloves
and
pants
. I'm just asking you, fellow tanks, how do you live with the low defense rating these items give you? Now by my gloves and pants I've dropped down to 516 defense!
Seriously what's up with the defense?
