@asakawa: How many warlocks have you seen in Outland and Northrend sending in their Felguard and using either wand or shadowbolt spam from there? I've seen a lot, they are a dime a dozen.
For an experienced warlock rerolling, a wand might speed things up in the beginning, but the OP is asking for advise for what seems his/her first warlock. Is wanding single mobs to death the first 25-30 levels really the best way to learn how to play the warlock class? We are not just taking speed, we are talking about learning to play warlock too.
Personally I love the warlock class for being a very versatile with some unique skills for recharging life and mana on the run, but to be versatile and effective you need to practice and master quite a few spells.
Using a wand teaches the new warlock nothing at all. Every idiot can figure out how to send in the pet and then press Shoot - yay, look at me, I'm a priest with a tank!
My advise to a new warlock is: Learn to use all your spells, learn to kill two mobs at the same time, learn to manage two mobs with your voidwalker, practice juggling two mobs without tanking them by using fear and dots, and keep exploring the limits of your abilities. It might be slower than wanding mobs at the start, you might end up low on mana and having to drink and you might even end up dead when you push a little too hard, but I promise you, once you get the hang of killing 3-4-5-6 mobs at the same time you will blow any warlock with a wand out of the water.
Being a crappy single targeting warlock is dead easy, everyone can figure that out. Being a multi target killing machine takes practice and effort, but it's so much more fun. Leave your wand at home and take advantage of some unique and powerful spells, it will serve you well in the long run.
Now tell me that this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqxVl3vXJok
doesn't look like more fun that using a wand.. :-)
