Although I can't argue against rogues being a top dps'er, I don't agree that there should be a 'gauranteed' top dps class.
Keep in mind that rogues fullfill a major function in many of blizzards designed boss fights. Interupts.
And Mythar, thats MM Hunter for ranged dps, BM have only been in raids for Furocious Inspiration, thats it, nothing else. I know because I had T5/T6 range hybrid dps they passed up to get my then half Kara, half blue BM hunter in to Hyjal. I'll agree that BM had an advantage because FI scales with the hunters gear, but the new Trueshot Aura should rightly fix that.
Marksman is Glitter Boy Artillary, ie, a really big gun, and really big bullets. BM has more survivability and versatility, and with the new changes and pet changes, can viably OT, switch out to a dps pet, and dps. I look forward to both capabilities, but if you're talking about straight dps, MM is and should always be the top dps spec. It has no other purpose.
BM flamers, ease your flame throwers to medium, keep in mind that in raids, and Heroics, straight dps isn't everything. Versatility and adaptability can save the day more often then anything else. Ever killed Gruul because that rogue evasion tanked him for that last 2%, or killed Ony because that survival hunter Deterance tanked her that last 2%? I have seen it.
But Marksman is nothing but point dmg, and if its not rightly designed to be more pure dmg output then either of the more versatile specs, it has failed and should be completely removed from the class.

I've already out dps'd 'premier BM' spec hunters as MM in similar gear currently. My only problem is I burn mana faster, and I have to work harder at it, but that seems to have been improved apon in WotLK.
BM may shoot faster, but MM hits far harder, and with the new Imp Arc Shot, Piercing Shots, Marked for Death, new Trueshot, and of coarse Chimera Shot, it should even out nicely.
I'll admit currently MM is lacking a lot and its certainly not easy to do well as it, and since most people like easy-mode play, I don't see Marks becoming a favorite.

Every hunter should play however the hell they feel they should play.
Tell that to a GM of a end game raiding guild. You are needed to perform 110% in raids and if your lacking cause you want to play the way you want to then you will not be raiding for much longer....or a gkick if there that type of guild.
If you're in a top raiding guild, chances are that you want to play the best spec, and focus on improving your skill. I've never seen anyone past Kara that didn't have that mentality. Raids just aren't for them.

By hitting harder, MM hunters will pull more aggro. Meaning they will have to aggro dump more. Meaning their dps will suffer.
And if you out-dps BM hunters, then they are bad. Given an equal level of gear and skill, a BM hunter will produce better damage than an MM hunter. This is not an opinion, this is a fact, that has been proven repeatedly.
1st, we're talking about WotLK, not current broke systems.
2nd, hitting harder and hitting more often equal the same thing. The only thing that makes threat higher per hit is crits, which would shift that irrelevant argument to Survival.
As to your final statement, its not a fact, that is straight opinion. I've personally went premier dps BM spec, to MM without upgrading any gear and I personally improved my dps. And as I was talking about WotLK Marks, there are only improvements, and major ones.

The only thing that makes threat higher per hit is critsCrits don't produce extra threat. For most dps moves (ie all those where there isn't an explicit "high threat component"), 1 dmg = 1 threat.
If it's a crit, it does more threat because it does more damage, but this isn't any different from doing more threat through hitting harder or more often.
As for judging what specs does the best dps, theorycraft is the only acceptable proof, the rest is just anecdotal evidence.
