I can understand wanting to have your pet bar back just cause it will be odd, but in all seriousness just forget about that thing. Make a few macros that will summon/freeze or summon/attack. The pet bar is messed up and sometimes bugged and the macros will always work. I have one that summons if he is not out (and sets to passive) and freezes if he is and another one that summons if he is not out (set to passive) and attacks if he is. That is all I need. The attack one also has a mouseover piece to it so I can have him switch targets without changing mine if I want.
I think there are some similar ones on Evertras's mage page you can use as examples which should be easy to find by a google search.
