During your free time, in between dungeons/battlegrounds, etc...
What do you prefer to farm and how profitable is it?
Just looking for some advice as to how and what I should spend my extra time farming; especially with the new expansion about to hit.

I farm the AH in my spare time. Buy low, sell high. Craft if it's profitable. Not really all that hard to do anymore given the right selection of add-ons.

I use Auctionator and Auctioneer, are there any others that you would recommend?

I farm cloth to make bags for the AH.

TradeSkillMaster. You can toss out Auctioneer, but I keep Auctionator around for those one or two items I pick up while working on Loremaster that I know I can sell for a good bit.
In fact, there is a great TSM guide around here somewhere.

i myself make money through
Cataclysmically Delicious
im pretty much the only one who sells vendor food on the AH, 1-2g for a stack of 5 and then sell them 5-7g each. and there been selling very well. since lots of people are finishing easy cata achievements.

I used to spend a lot of time farming
Heartblossom
. The market's pretty weird these days, and I've other things to do, but it used to be the most expensive herb in my AH. It was not unusual to get 100g for a stack.
Right now I'm running BC heroics for achivements in my spare time, and it actually yields a bit of loot too. Better still, it's not completely dependent on the lull in the maket place. I swamped the market with Netherweave Bags, my bad.

I usually have so much stuff to farm in terms of rep, pets, leveling tradeskills on alts, etc. that it's been a long time since I went out just to farm gold. When I did, it was during wrath and I made my money off JC- just farmed saronite, turned it into gems and cut it. Another good cash farm was Argent Tournament- 4 days once you unlocked all the dailies was all you needed to get a pet that sold for 4-5k on the AH. Usually, though, just being smart about the things you pick up and getting the most out of them on the AH, plus scanning for items that you can flip for quick profit on the AH, makes a decent amount of money without farming specifically for gold.

2k-4k gold per hour
Requires skinning and a Treasure Find Potion
Pale Roost in Deepholm. Kill and skin the elite drakes that are knocked out of the sky. They die in seconds, usually fall in packs, have an almost instant re-spawn and have an elite loot table.
Sell the skins, mats and disenchant (may require a friend) all the greens. Profit.

Low level skinning.
I have an alt that is parked at an inn. When he gets to full rested exp, I farm low level skinnable mobs. A smart way to do it is (if you are the right level) farm the little whelps that drop the vanity pets.
Low level leather sells for a ton because most players level their alts through dungeons, or with heirlooms questing and they can never keep up with the demand for leather if they are training LW./skinning
