It reduces a beast's aggro range by 10 yards.
So say for example a level 34 beast has an aggro range of 40 yds for level 34 characters. If a druid casts Soothe Animal, said beast would only have an aggro range of 30 yds while the debuff is on.
Make sense?

Never casted this spell in my life. Seems fairly pointless when we can go cat and stealth.

Used it mainly while herbing in Felwood back in the days, and am now using it at times during Hodir daylies to avoid worms. It's just a little something to gain time/avoid a fight, not required at all for anything though.

LOL i have always found it to be one of those spells that just sits in your spell book uncast for years......

i use it everyday. Sometimes killing beasts is a waste of time/effort.

During a timed run, you change to cat and stealth past the mobs. all is good, till you realise paladins can't stealth.
