It is an easter egg. Wrath has been out for about two years - if there was anything that could be done with it, it would have been found by now. It's like
Nova's grave
in Netherstorm - a reference to something notable. In the case of the hatch, it's a TV show. In the case of the grave, it's one of Blizzard's games that never made it.

I remember when I first found it and thought it really meant something. I hadn't watched lost so I didn't get the reference.
