Balance druid is a bit tough to level early on due to the high mana consumption. It can be done but early on you don't have much in the way of mana regen as other caster classes do so you'll have to invest heavily in lots of drinks. Even so, I don't think the other specs will lend themselves to speedy leveling as well as the Feral tree.

I still like balance more... Faster Wrath and Entangling roots seems to do it for me. I dunno, but I've always found it easy to entangling roots something and then get easy criticals with the talents I have. And Druids don't exactly suck in combat, too. Neither am I really worried about Mana Regeneration, it seems to come easily enough if you wear the right armor. Once I get low on mana and I'm in a fight, I heal and then shapeshift to bear.
There seems to be a lot of spirit armor given away in Night Elf quests, but, regardless, balance isn't all that hard to lvl. up with.
