Which upgrades before heroics (resto)?

So, i'll be at 80 in a couple of days (been doing my 80 DK for awhile) on the shaman, and leveled in Northrend as Elemental.

Questions/Tradeoffs:

1) Sadly enough I'm using the Kara shield (though I can swap out to Saronite Protector if I want more SP and crit vs MP5)... Should I do that?

2) Should I have my guild master make me the Wispcloak? I'd have to farm the clams for the tear, or should I do a few days of Wintergrasp and get the PvP cloak (I lean towards wisp and use the honor for other slots that are tougher to fill...)

3) Fill in pieces with LW Stormhide stuff?

I think my overall beef is that I'm still using a few BC pieces. I have the 100 badge chest still, Kara trinket, Kara totem, Kara bracers (which I could just run UK and get the quest bracers for a small upgrade), but I think, then, the larger question becomes "should I bother with all that?" and get badge gear for running the heroics.

Get yourself the Kalu'ak chestpiece, and I believe the Valiance people have a decent shield as well, it's at least enough to hold until your badge shield. Go get your Chain Heal totem from the Venture Bay people, it's easy and takes ~30min tops.

The cloak is probably the toughest to fill, there's a good regen one in Occulus, but people avoid that instance like the plague. If you have guildies who don't mind it, might want to mooch some heroics as elemental for gear/badges.

I made the mistake of buying the Kaluak chest piece, and it doesn't beat the 100 badge BC chest piece.

Kaluak is 65 SP, 22 MP5, 41 INT. 100 badge chest is 69 SP, 17 MP5, 51 INT. they're about equal.

As for Helm of the Lightning Halls, it's about 300g on my server. I'm not sure I'm willing to pay that much for a small upgrade. If it was 75, I'd probably do it.

As for badge of the infiltrator, the items comments says that the 44 SP is being removed and being changed to an on-use effect, which I really don't like on my trinkets (I used the Black Morass one forever in BC). If that change gets made, I'm not sure if I'd stick with the badge, but the 22 mp5 one could be a good piece.

Upgrades before heroics? Don't really think it's necessary.
I started doing heroics with 1389 +heal (oldest value I can find anyway :p) which was 7 quest blues and a couple of BC elemental epics.
Was a little bumpy to start but in no time I was getting upgrades.

This was kinda the theory behind my question. I know can look for upgrades easily enough on here, but it seems like being able to sleaze into a few easy ones might be more worth my time. However Wispcloak seems like something worthwhile to do regardless.

So, with 1299 +healing (that's EL only, no FT Totem), 15k mana pool, and 180 mp5 (not counting the 130mp5 from WS or 105 mp5 from mana stream totem), could I do heroics... even *sigh* pugs?

How has crit been going for you? Can you put a value on crit rating to mp5 ratio? What about the LHW nerf?
