A lock who rolls on healers wear is a complete twat. it doesn't matter if its spell based, if the item is a healers no mage or lock should roll for it.
You should probably learn how stats work for mages and locks before making another silly post like this again.
The original poster's descriptions are a bit off, and thus provided some confusion in this thread.
These are the three items that were discussed:"Healer" Leather Belt"Healer" RingDPS Caster Trinket
The confusion comes in what is and is not a "healer" item. The only thing that determines if something is a "healer" item is if it has MP5 on it. MP5 is a healer only stat. Likewise, any item with Hit Rating makes it a "DPS" item.
The healer belt is not a healer belt, it's a Druid belt (either Tree or Boomkin). Shamans and Paladins have no talents which use spirit, so the belt is not good for them, thus it's only good for a druid.
The "healer" ring is good for any class that likes spirit, including Shadow Priests, Warlocks, Mages, and any kind of Druid. Again, that ring has spirit on it so Shamans and Paladins should not be interested in it.
The confusion in this thread is all of the replies taking the OP's word that it was "a healer ring" when it was not; it was a spirit ring.
It sounds to me like the Belt (that he won) and the Ring (that he wanted) were not really that good for him anyway. Yeah an upgrade is an upgrade, but it's not optimal for the Shaman class.
Who should get what items is further confused if you have an item like this one: Cloth Shoulders
. Stamina, Intellect, Crit, Haste, Spellpower. Priest (Shadow or Healer), Warlock, Mage, Druid (Boomkin or Tree), Shaman (Elemental or Healer), and Paladin (Healer) would all use the itemization of this piece of gear.

Okay well I was running reg Toc on my shammy as heals. I am lvl 78 and I love ele, it will be my main spec.
We down the first bosses, a leather healer belt drops- it is better than my belt and no one else wants it so I take it.
Then we down the 2nd boss- a healers ring and caster dps trinket drop. The trinket was far better than my trinket and so was the ring.
The group had told me need on whatever is an upgrade so I needed both of them.
I won the trinket and lost the healers ring.
I was happy with winning the trinket but the lok who had lost to me was whinning about how he only has 2 non epic items, one of which was a trinket.
I told him I loved ele dps and I wanted the trinket.
Later on I realised that he wasnt going to use the ring that had dropped, he only wanted it to bargain with me. Since I wast up for the bargain I asked him if I could have the ring since he wasnt going to use it.
He got #$%^ed off at me and proceeded to talk about how he was never going to group with me again.
Was I wrong or was he? I dont instance or raid much so I have no idea.
So with "healing" ring, you mean http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47200
(only caster ring in ToC normal) and thats what you call a healing ring?
You sir, have a LOT to learn. The lock had every right to roll on the ring.
