Yeah the fact you were using a gorilla was probably not doing you any good. Also your spec is a bit funky to me. Try
this
when you reach the hit cap without talents especially since FA is bugged right now and only adds to your pets hit if you're below 3% from gear.

Gorillas are great AoE tanks but aren't going to help your DPS.
Now, I don't necessarily think that a Hunter must top the DPS charts. You took a gorilla, so were you being used to handle off-tanking? If so then your DPS won't be as high. Were you handling a lot of CC with trapping? If you were you've got downtime which cuts into your DPS.
However if you were there solely to handle DPS then bringing a Tenacity pet isn't the most useful thing to do - bring a Ferocity pet instead.

Thrash DPS doesn't matter.
As for 1.4k DPS... is pretty good for Heroics. I was doing heroics with a 850 dps Warlock on the team and no on complained about it.
Get a Cat (Devilsaur is not recommended because he may do some pulls due to his hit box being bigger than normal)
