i can't believe no one has brought up Atlantis yet. isn't it common knowledge that their civilization covered all of western Europe going back as far as ~3200 B.C.?

Scotland because everyone loves the underdog
This.
Also because everyone loves our accent (assuming they can understand it).

Little comment, anyone who is born in USA, Mexico, Canada, Brasil, Argentina, etc..is
American
, for they were born in the continent of
America
. The US just stole that title for some reason. Something more appropriate(for people from the USA) would be
North American
(but, then again, that adjective also works for Mexicans and Canadians).
Oh, and Great Britain did not discover America(wich is a
continent
, not a country), the Vikings were the first Europeans to come here.
Edit: grammar :P

Wrong again. an Irish monk (St. Brendan I think) is thought to have traveled there pre vikings(...)
You said that this St. Brendan is
thought
to have come here pre-vikings, but there is strong archeological evidence that the Vikings came here long before anyone else. So I'm gonna stick with that.
PS:I can't be wrong
again
since that's my first post.

That's an interesting thought, but what do you plan to call people born in the United States of America? United Statians?
First, its not my fault that the US chose a name wich all country adjectives you can think of are horrible.
Oh wait, thinking about it, I realize that most people in a country derive the name FROM the country (thus Canadians from Canada, the British from Great Britain, Mexicans from Mexico, etc)
Second, I never said that people in the USA aren't American, I just said that its not
only
the people in USA that are American.
I'm pretty sure no one stands around and claims what the people of their country will be called.
No one does, and thats what the US did, they self tittled themselves American.
In most cases its the other countries that come up with a name for the other countries, usualy based on the countries' names or some sort of behavior tha people there might have.
