I think some people are starting to get off topic from the original post (or don't understand what he was trying to say). Can we please remain on point while remaining civil so we can leave this thread open? /thank

Those are some rewards I can see them handing out. I mean people were able to get spectral tigers because of the card game. Why not vets of the game?
The veterans already have the advantage of having that much more time to grind rep/farm gold/raid/PvP/learn new profession/etc. Each time something new is released/upgraded, those that have been around longer will likely get it that much faster. It's much easier to get the next tier of raid gear if you already have the last tier set (some might even say it's required).
If your 70 character is at the exact same level gear-wise as mine, but you've been 70 for a year longer, then you should have put more effort in. (This is not an attack on you specifically. "You" means anyone out there.)
If you were around since the beginning, several in-game events have transpired that awarded one-time-only items/titles etc. Someone who only started yesterday never gets to put on the special tabard that players got during the TBC launch event, or the AQ war effort, etc.
have you read anything i wrote?
i dont want to revamp zones - just age some background content = nothing important and sure as hell no quest related items
take the time - seriously - to go back and review what i have written - never once did i speak about revamping zones or anything even close to that
i dont know why you are so against this - what is the anger all about?
Angry? I'm not the one calling people names. I'm just curious as to the validity of devoting resources to major patch/upgrade (and don't kid yourself, it would be) just to put a fresh coat of paint on the windmill or fix someone's roof, just so a few old-timers can play "remember when."
You say yourself that you want changes that are "not important." If the change isn't important, then it won't be an improvement, so why change it? To my knowledge, every character in WoW starts out at roughly the same point in time (suspension of disbelief is crucial here), so the scenery and the NPC characters in the background have to remain the same along with it. Meanwhile, plenty of things have changed; I guarantee that someone who signs up tomorrow will never raid MC, Blackrock or Naxx, because there's no point to it anymore. Meanwhile, you "old-timers" can still talk about how much fun that was, back before the new content came out and the old zones became nothing more than brief stops on the way to Outland and beyond.

can you think of anything phil? - a minor tweak that has nothing at all to do with quests and gear and honor but still adds polish and flavor to the game - after all - its those little nothings that add up to such a great big effect that create such awesome games
Fair enough; I can see how my posting style can get under your (or anyone's) skin...We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.
In an ideal world, it would be great if the game scenery progressed with your character, but the mechanics of the a multiplayer game make it difficult/impossible to do it properly...Because Old Blanchy has been standing on the side of the road way too long. Someone needs to call the glue factory...

I could care less about the inn. Honestly, if I started a new human alt (and happened to level it in Westfall instead of another zone for that bracket), I'd never notice.
And they're not going to change the structure of old-world stuff. It was designed to not change over time and so it won't.
However, I do actually agree with the OP's intentions. Having only recently been completely dailies on the Isle of Quel'Danas, I was surprised to find that after having countless 70s complete the quest "Taking Back the Harbor" (killing enemy blood elves on the harbor of Sun's Reach), I was prepared to run into them again... when I found the Shattered Sun Offensive now has control of the harbor and the building the enemies had previously been occupying is now a friendly inn. The quest remains, but has changed locations to the Dawnstar Village (the new quest asks players to continue killing them to keep them from encroaching again).
Although I'm sure the harbor has been taken for good, I think it would be far more interesting if NPCs of the targeted quest would spawn groups of adds to attack the harbor (and eventually take the harbor back from us if not defended) if the quest to thin their numbers was not performed enough.
That kind of idea would make the old world zones interesting (like if the Bloodsail Buccaneers would actually pick up their anchors and attack Booty Bay if their captains/crew were not kept in check, thus forcing a raid-size battle against them or lose Booty Bay to them entirely), with players able to participate in such situations. (Perhaps the idea could have been implented for PvE servers, allowing PvP servers to remain more focused on anti-player-faction sentiments.)

as to whether things were changed such as workmen that are currently fixing things that never get fixed...well, it wouldnt bother me but i'm not fussed about it really (wouldnt mind if the idiot in bloodhoof village learned how to use a leash but that is a quest lol) I DO however wish they would rework the programming a bit in the earlier zones and ON THE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS! If you look at the belves and squids, then the humans etc, well they seriously need a makeover imo. Again not really major, just that to me they look very poorly coded in comparison. I hate the way a human looks when i try to play it, trolls orcs gnomes...all of them could use some face lifts imo. I think the scenery could use the same treatment in the pre-bc areas. True...i doubt this will happen for the same feduciary reasons and it would not be an easy job, i recognise this, but 'in my perfect world' :)
A few tweaks here and there would be a nice touch i agree, also agree that it would probably be more work than it would be worth.
However, in my 'perfect world' mentality again, i really wish they'd rework those pre-bc dungeons to make them viable again. I am a newer player, i didnt start til after bc, but i DO think that those dungeons difficulty level teaches you to play your class better, i'd love to do them, you just cant find a group for them since they are technically a waste of time with no gear upgrades for anyone and not particularly easy :( So, to 'old timer's' that think newer players are all nub's that dont know how to play, there are those of us that want to be every bit as good at playing our class...making lvling easier didnt just slam you with a bunch of poor players, it made it harder for new players to learn to be good please keep it in mind :)
/e realizes she just wrote waay too much.
/e ties hands together, sorry lol

Some players don't mind the old content not changing. So, looking at it from Blizzard's viewpoint, you have some people who think it should change and others who don't. What to do? Probably go with what works best for them. ;)

As an oldtime player, i don't what things like Westfall Inn fixed for example. Why? because then it's not as special and epic anymore! It would just be an ordinary, boring inn!

The bottom line is the Bottom Line. Same reason car makers update their models every 5 years. The first 2 years of production pay for the development costs, and the last 3 are profit. In this case, if the average player spends about a month (realtime, not /played) getting to 58-60, then Blizzard gets a month of fees from content that was written years ago.

Wow, necro.
Way necro.
Although strangely enough this is a fairly appropriate thread necro, given that thanks to Cataclysm, Azeroth is finally going to age!

In case you live under a rock, entire Azeroth will change... completely. Except maybe for Westfall.

Westfall will be saved by the power of Blanchy. The flames of the Cataclysm will rise up, and Blanchy will toss his blanket on them to smother them; the waters of the Cataclysm will flood toward the coastline, and Blanchy will simply drink the waters.
