Why would anyone go all the way to 70 on a PVP server ?

I guess I'm considering something as PvP that others are not - Battlegrounds.
I've rarely "world" PvPed. *shrugs* Never seen the point in it. I like the concept of world PvP objectives in some of the Outlands zones, but even then... I'd rather go into a Battleground where I'm sure level-wise my foes will be within +/- 9 levels of me.
Oh - Wizdro, excellent post, I think you make some great points, the best of which is the last one for each category - "This realm is not for everyone." People like different things, and that's really all it boils down to.

having another faction near you, who could attack at any moment gives a little rush... i didn't realize i got this rush, until i rolled pve. my focus sharpened and my fingers moved into positioned to fight... then i remembered: kiddy server. it totally kills the little rush world pvp provided. pvp > pve

Also endless fun while waiting for raids to start, ganking people who are duelling while waiting to summon their raid members.
You don't get that on PvE servers XD

I really don't like how this post turned out to be honest. There is a lot of finger pointing and name calling as opposed to real debate on this subject.
I agree that either server is not right for everyone as a poster mentioned before.
It's all personal preference. I personally only play on PvP servers, I've never really tried a PvE server. But for the most part, the PvE realm players are calling PvP servers "CorpseCamp" servers. I don't really agree with this, I've leveled a few characters (only one 70) and I rarely got camped. It's really not as bad as people make it out to be.
I've done my share of killing people, I'm not going to lie, but usually it's in defense of my lower level toon, or a friend's toon. Most people don't go out of their way to camp people (granted some people do, but not everyone). Sometimes I'll even go to a low level area and help out Alliance lowbies, I mean, you can't generalize everyone into one category.

I haven't yet hit Outland with any of my characters on a PvP server, but my experience so far is that, so long as you avoid a handful of zones (Stranglethorn being by far the worst), it's really not that much more frustrating than playing on a PvE server.
Excluding Stranglethorn, there have been a handful of times when I got caught off-guard by someone a bit higher than me, and there was that time a pair of mounted ??'s decided I needed a smackdown in Desolace, and there was the one Gnome in Stonetalon who decided to be a jerk and corpse-camp me. But when it comes to ganking, that's it, really.
What I've seen a lot more of is the cat-and-mouse stuff, like the time we were running back into the Barrens from doing the Ashenvale Run and a Night Elf Hunter spotted us. He threw out an Eagle Eye while hiding behind a hill, I threw a Hunter's Mark on him, he threw a Hunter's Mark at me, and I ushered the rest of my party to safety while keeping him distracted. In the end, though, we were both having too much fun playing tag to actually kill each other, and we all made it back to Crossroads without incident.
That's something you'd never really see on a PvE server. There's an element of danger, yes, but in a way the danger actually makes things better. The excitement, the potential for unpredictability, makes fun things that much more surprising, and thus even more enjoyable when they happen. And perhaps the most surprising thing is that they DO happen, and more often than you'd suspect.

At least a pve'r can acknowledge its not the same.So many people that want pve to pvp keep saying its the same but wont try to level a toon first.Im not saying its hard, but server population plays a big roll if you are slightly or super paranoid while leveling. Sounds like the op was on a 3:1 ratio server where the other faction has nothing better to do then hang out in lowbie towns waiting for ques.

about the pve / pvp question, i only have to say one thing:
open pvp used to be good. but now the fun part about is not present anymore. there is no real open pvp anymore, only ganking those who are many levels under yours or useless griefing when someones tries to farm or do quests. i have my mains on a pvp server because i wanted to go hardcore, and i loved it while it lasted. but now it has just gotten old. i want to be able to choose. being assaulted has just grown old, it stopped being fun at some point.
still, i would agree that those who want to experience the game to its fullest and get a kick out of the ever-present danger should roll on a pvp realm, i would even suggest it to newbies despite the ganking part. when real open pvp happens, it's just great. the way it should be - gotta love it.
but for those who have many level 70 chars and know the in and out of wow, the fun part of open pvp has diminished. what is fun to us, is efficiency and speed. therefore i have started rolling my new chars on a pve realm and i don't miss a thing. when i feel like killing enemies with wits, i can always go to a battleground and participate in the zerg, or do something tactically useful.
in the end, it just boils down to having the choice
when
you want to do pvp - or not having this choice. but it also takes away the thrill, true. personally, i am happy at my pve retirement castle.

I have a 70 mage, 66 priest, 64 warlock and a 62 shaman along with a
some other toons from 20-40. All are on a PVP server. Getting
ganked when I first started playing was EXTREMELY frustrating. But
now has just become an accepted part of the game. Sometimes I
gank lowbies but most of the time I just let them be. However, I can't
imagine playing on a server where you aren't able to attack your
counterparts at will. As far as being "camped", make an alt. While the
retard is sitting there camping your corpse, go level your alts. It worked
for me.

Thought it best for me to level rogue to 70 first, so I could sleuth my way through if need be. Worked fine. My hunter is another story tho...bit more challenging. I play PVP and PVE - each has pros and cons that you need to figure out for yourself and your style. PVE definitely allows for those 'bio' breaks.
