Why Your Religion?

Hypothetically speaking, let's just pretend for a minute that we have proved, absolutely proved, that the universe has one or more sentient creators. This is something that I've always believed possible. However, shortly after is where the yucky stuff starts. I haven't seen any moral absolutes, nor have we found any evidence of a life after death or even a 'soul' period. As far as we can tell, all human thought is limited to the physical brain. Who cares about the fires of hell if I don't have a nervous system, or a body to be burned? Where is the evidence that God gives a crap if you bless your wine or if you eat pork? For all I know, Pastafarianism seems to be the most historically accurate, merely because it has the least myths about it. What makes accepting that the son of a victim of teen pregnancy with gullible parents is the messiah (who didn't save anybody, got killed, and indirectly caused the deaths of millions since) to get you past the 'pearly gates' any less ridiculous then the idea that you are required to wear a pirate custom every Friday?
So I want to hear the thoughts. What makes
your
religion the right one?

Honestly, I don't know why my religion is the right one. I'm Catholic, and mainly because I was born into it. Why do I continue to follow it, then? I think it's just the way I was raised; I agree with many of its ideals (with a few exceptions) and honestly believe God exists and Jesus was his Son. Why do I believe? That's a profound question I can't really answer. I don't know why I believe, I simply do, and I do quite firmly.
That being said, there are multiple things about my Church I don't agree with. For example, issues with homosexuality; I see no problem with it. I also don't really see a problem with premarital sex or...erm..."self-imposed fun time" (as long as the former doesn't go into out-of-control promiscuity, of course).

I don't belong to any religion. And it's actually a good thing.

@ Fathios, that's what I believe the essentials of most 'faiths' are. Just that, 'faith.'
@ TomatoSauce I don't "belong" to any Religion, though I have been to Shul and will be having a Bar mitzfah, so I'm a what I like to call Jathiest. I am deeply interested in theology, whether or not I agree with the things stated.

I do find it interesting that Mary wasn't stoned to death, and that Joseph wasn't the first one to drag her to the rock face.
Anyway, I'm agnostic, for the very reason you specify in your opening post.

Because I believe in the tenants for how to live a good life, and the gods themselves are good ones.... even Kali heh. Besides, having no belief is bad for your soul, you won't reach for your potential by the time you pass on, and you'll have to keep coming back longer on the Grand Wheel to finally reach the last point.

What I really meant was I don't have a religion.

Mm... I am a bit unfamiliar (sadly, it's very interesting) with Hinduism, but Kali is the destroyer, yes?
Surprisingly, I agree with you, to a point of course. I have a beliefs, they simply do not require God. However, religion is an innate tool at stopping everyone from killing each other. Without religion, I somehow doubt that very many of the great things that have come into being would have. However, I disagree with the fact that it is required. In fact, I think the world might actually be a better place if people could be moral without the threat of 'fire and brimstone' or whatnot. Then again, I don't really believe in morals either... But that's a bit more complicated.

LDS...
So if all gods were proven true, the LDS faith gives the ultimate reward in heaven... a chance to become a creator yourself.

I was raised Catholic but I've always believed that blind faith is a bad idea. I've yet to see a religion that ticks that "yes I believe in this without actually just being there because I'm giving lip service" box. So Agnostic by personal choice. Really, just looking for something that doesn't act like a way to ignore that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when you realise we're all going to die some day, surrounded by old, and sometimes odd, traditions.
I agree. The idea of ceasing to exist is sometimes scarier to me then 'fire and brimstone,' and sometimes it gives me an odd peace of mind.

I never said that all Gods were proven true, I simply stated that we had some evidence (mathematical perhaps) that the universe was created by a sentient being.

She is the Destroyer yes, but that doesn't make her evil; God destroyed a lot of things... hell, he wiped out everyone on the planet but an old man, his wife, and the three sons and their wives. But there would be no morals without something making a line to create it; I mean, I follow the creed of Wicca in addition to my Hindu and Buddha belief: Do what you will, and harm none... and there's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, that makes sense. Although I have this whole thing going that there is no 'evil,' it's really all subjective. Your creed makes sense for the human race, but it really gets more grey than that.

Ah. I misread. Still, I stick by my statement.

But my question was, what makes you think that you will become a creator in heaven, as opposed to another pasta string in the great invisible flying spaghetti monster?

There's lots of evil; anything violent, vicious cruel you do to someone is evil, but then again, for stuff like that, that's what karma is for; whatever evil you do, you get back three times worse.

I want to say that I am a Buddhist, but whenever I try to explain what I am I can't quite get what I am saying across. I have read up on every major religion on the face of the Earth, and to be honest, this one fits me. However, I have no found a proper sect for me and my beliefs and I am very interesting in Daoism. (Side note- many people intertwine the two, so much so that scholars have difficulties figuring out who said/ did what)
tr;dr: To keep with the WoW theme- I want to raid ICC, I just need to find a proper guild.
I have the same problem when I try to define my moral nihilism.
I fail to get your tl;dr.
